A very convenient daylight outdoor travel lens.

Yes or no answers are oversimplified.

At 35mm f/8 it's outstanding. For a travel lens, it's very convenient and usable at 28 & 50 for outside, daylight shooting. That said, it's not going to equal the top primes in wide open shooting. At 28 there is some barrel distortion. At 50 image sharpness is not Leica prime class off axis. There is never bad corner smearing or the like.

My Sony a7rii with Tri-Elmar fits into the third party "ever-ready" case I use to protect both. So, I can do daylight, outside shooting with just one piece of equipment -- the Sony and this optic.

Back home, the 50mm image can be processed with Topax's AI Gigapixel to make a 75mm equivalent enlargement that most will not be able to tell from the very best.

I'm very happy with the purchase. It meets my expectations.

Not a zoom you know of, it is three prime lenses even in the Leica prime standard

Since it is so sweet in all three focal length, and Leica M high ISO makes F4 fast enough for all occssions, including museum, cathedral, and palace, I stopped switching between other prime lenses for different focal length. The only drawback is the lack of AF that makes me switching to the much more bulky SL AF system.Read full review...

Specialty glass, but great within it's limits.

A bit lower contrast than more recent Leica glass, looks more like classic Leica glass. But actually sharper than I expected for a "zoom" lens. Keep in mind the F/4 limitation and the age of the lenses, but if you want speedy changes in focal length on a rangefinder, these are fantastic!Read full review...
