A fine spin off of Rock Band

This is Rock Band, but aimed at a younger audience. The Lego aesthetic helps in that regard, but doesn't necessarily give the "tweenager" impression that Band Hero does. There are 45 songs to play in this game. Because this is roughly half of what you get in Rock Band or Rock Band 2, playing career mode can get repetitive. Luckily, you can play normal Rock Band DLC in the game (provided it's a "kid friendly" song, which the game decides for you). The song selection is pretty good, with some standouts and the ones that don't work as well. You can also import every song from this game into Rock Band, so if you like songs you can have access to them all without switching disks. The game has nearly identical features to Rock Band, with a few additions like a Super Easy mode, where all you have to do is strum the guitar or hit any drum pad and you will play the note "correctly". Great for little kids who don't care about score and juts want to play around.

Overall, this is a decent game. It doesn't match up to the original Rock Band games, but it's fun in its own right, especially for family gaming. If you have young rock stars in your home, or you like some of the tracks, it's worth the dough.

Good but could be better

Was hoping for an easier game with newer songs. The songs, like all Rockband discs are an eclectic mix. However, even the super easy mode is still challenging and can be difficult for a novice (like an 8 yr old) to keep up with. That said, the bass drum pedal can be set to auto and the song doesn't kick you out if you aren't doing so well. I feel that's important to keep the attention of a young mind.Read full review...

Good game but some problems

Before you buy this game ask if the download code has been used or not. If the code has been used... you can still play the game with the disc but you will not be able to transfer the songs. Here is a problem I had though. I wanted this game to be able to export the songs to Rockband. The thing that is not well marked on the label or in the papers of the game is this. You put in the paper code that comes in the game box-well that you have to get on the Internet and go to a specific web page where you put in the code then the web page will give you a second code. Copy this second code down on a piece of paper where you will not loose it. Then take the second code that you wrote down and turn your ps3 deck on. Then go to the playstation network and select "account management". Then select "redeem codes". Enter that second code that you wrote down on a sheet of paper here. Then select continue. After the export key has downloaded you will need to put your original game disc in the ps3 deck and start up the game. Then choose "Music Store". Then select "export download". Now here's the part most people won't know about.... you have to pay $9.99 to purchase the rights to transfer the songs. Your code they gave you in the box was just sending you around in circles. Bottom line they gave you a free code but you can't do anything with it unless you pay the $9.99. And even then if you have download problems-like I did then the Playstation network will DEDFINITELY NOT refund you. My ps3 said the download time would be 360 minutes (that is six hours). And no I don't have dial up Internet. But in six hours my ps3 logged me out of the Playstation network which then screwed up the download and I got to start all over again from the beginning to download for another 6 hours again and again. I still don't have it downloaded on my ps3. This is very annoying.
To the makers of Rockband... this is exactly how you DO NOT want to design a game code. One code then another code and then have people jump thru endless hoops in order to get it to work. If this prominent feature is going to be on Rockband Green Day count me out. This is a game that has been out for some time and there is no fix for it? Rockband is either ignoring their customers or just plain doesn't care. I think it's both. I like the songs for the game but transferring them to Rockband was super annoying.

Great for families

If you want a traditional lego style version of rock band/guitar hero, this one fits the bill. There are some easy songs and some harder songs that will still challenge the casual player and the lego theme is a fun addition. I read the review on ign.com before purchasing the game, and I agree with most of the review. I can see that for the hardcore gamer who wants to rock out as hard as possible, this probably isn't the game they want. For someone who wants a medium to hard challenge with good ambiance, I think this is a great addition. You can play any song downloaded from rock band 2 and the super easy mode is great for my musically challenged family and very young kids. It's nice not having to go to "no fail mode" when they want to play along. I would recommend to casusal and semi-serious gamers who like rock band. Especially if they are family focused.Read full review...

Rockband Lite with Legos

Originally, I purchased this to expand my track list; and I'm glad I did. Not only does it have classic Bon Jovi and Tom Petty but it has great newcomers like We The Kings and Boys Like Girls. Anyway, this is what the game has to offer by way of music as the production company takes the "E10+" rating very seriously (certain songs already downloaded in my harddrive did not make the cut). Anyway, think of Lego Rockband as a lighter Rockband fair with "family-friendly" music to enjoy and the added bonus of creating and customizing pre-existing characters.

Overall: It's a fun enough game and will be well worth the money to export the set list if it's compatible with Rockband 3. Peace.

Good family fun, recomend some caution for some songs.

i wanted a "Rock Band" game that had songs that would not burn younger ears. did not agree with some songs, but overall
much better than other games of this format (if you are looking for family friendly on ps3)
i also like song import feture. good for adding other songs
would recomend but still use caution for younger players.
(they need nick "rock band" with nick song and people like
spongebob)

Great game for the family!!

Rock Band is great in all areas of judging a game.
First of all, it is fun. Who doesn't wish that they could have been a rock star in another life? It is great trying all the different instruments and playing with your family, and I felt that the four difficulty levels are perfectly designed to ease your way into playing.
Next, the game has tons of replayibility. There is and endless amount of stuff to unlock and tryout whether it be songs to play, places to play at, or things for your characters to wear.
Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this game. The designers seemed to have covered every aspect of the life of a rock band.
