Camera packs with functions. Great for shots and videos

I have done a lot of research about this camera, so I know what it can do and don't. I need camera that can take shots which can print up to 8"x10" and take short videos with sound. Although the camera provides 12MP is an overkill, the video has stereo sound which is not easy to find. It takes very good pictures and the videos are great considering the size of the len. Image stabilization is decent. There are over 20 modes so I can take great pictures in any conditions, like day, night, snow, fireworks, etc. It takes some time to familiar all functions but it worths it. When taking videos, the zooming noise is noticable. So, avoid zooming while taking video. There are two microphones at the front of the camera, they are quite decent. So, don't accidentally block them with your hands. It takes at least 8GB SDHC memory which is what I have. But I think it can take 16GB also. Just make sure it is class 6. So, the memory transfer is optimum. If you get the HDTV dock like I have, you can play videos on your HD TV perfectly. But If you want to play video file on computer, it seems to have shutter and degradation effect. Probably regular software can't display the full extend of the video. The Kodak easyshare software has little use to me. I normally use the card reader to transfer files. Last time I use it during Texas Renaissance festival, it works beautifully. If you want something that combines camcorder and camera, this Kodak V1253 is a good recommendation, especially if you get a good deal on eBay.Read full review...

A little disappointed, expected better photos.

I have a larger DSLR camera that is great, but, I wanted something that could fit in a pocket or on a belt clip while traveling, something like my wife's great little Kodak V603. Of course, our V603 is years old and has been bumped, splashed, jostled, and handled without extreme care, yet, her V603 still takes bright, sharp, clear photos at the click of a button. I had understood this Kodak V1253 to be the successor to that little dynamo, and, being TWICE the pixels, the normal sized photos would be that much more bright and crisp.

The camera works fine, but, it is super sensitive to movement when taking a picture. And I mean, movement simply from the shutter, even if the unit is sitting on a fixed surface or tripod. Better lighting conditions for a faster shutter speed doesn't help, and it is especially noticeable when using the optical or digital zoom features. As a result, the quality of the pictures taken is simply not there. It is as if there is a loose lens inside the camera that sometimes falls into the right place, but, most time, especially if using any level of zoom, does not.

The loose internal lens theory, however, is not likely a reality, because the video recordings appear crisp and clear, and the camera is certainly moving at that time.

I have tried many different settings to see if there is anything I could do better than the automatic, but, that did not help. I did see on other reviews that there may be software updates for the camera, so, I will need to search for those and see. But, overall, compared to the quality of our V603, this new and improved V1253 is definitely newer, but, I am not so sure of the value of the improvements.

If this were my first Kodak digital camera, I would NOT lean toward ever buying another one, but, I have owned several prior Kodak digital cameras and have been VERY satisfied with the quality of the pictures received, so, I am hoping this one is just an "oops" and I have great expectations that the next one will be newer and REALLY improved.

Great Camera w/ Great Quality...

My first few pictures were terrible because of ISO setting and not focusing the lens before the shot. I turned to ISO all the way down and you must press the shutter button halfway to focus the lens before you take the picture. Once you do that then your pix will come out so crisp and detailed.

I love the 16:9 widescreen display, but I hate that it is limited to 9MP when shooting in that mode.

The HD video capture is clean and perfect for those with YouTube accounts, though you have to adjust the resolution before uploading.

The self-timer is annoying to operate since there is no dedicated button for it, you must go into the menu to set it before every shot.

The usb connection is also a pain because Kodak have their own usb adapter that you feed a micro usb plug into before you connect it to the camera. If you lose that adapter then you're screwed. Hopefully some third-party manufacturer will make a cable that eliminates that dumb idea of Kodak's...

Kodak EASYSHARE V1253

The ability to record 720p video on a pocket size point and shoot digital camera makes the V1253 unique.
The panoramic feature which allows you to stitch three photos into one is clever and works well after a little practice. The screen is large and the camera can be programmed to shoot at 16:9 aspect ratio which fills up the screen when shooting a vertically formatted picture, though at a lower 9.0 megapixel setting.
The only downside I've found is a slower start up speed and recovery between pictures than my Nikon.
But, the price is right and HD video on a digital camera is so convenient.

Great deal!!

First of all, the two digital cameras that I have ever owned have both been Kodak cameras; I got a 3.1 Megapixel (back when those were hi-tech) and now I have a 12 megapixel one. I am very pleased with the picture quality of the camera, however, the video quality has issues. This camera can take video in several quality levels: low, which I believe was 320x480 resolution; medium, which was both 640x480 and 640x480 (HQ) format; and Hi-Def, 720p resolution, which was 1280x1024 or so. This is where the camera suffers: if you have the image quality set to this, the video stutters extremely often and is not worth the effort. Why have this option if it can't take actually good movies with this resolution? For this I was greatly disappointed in the camera, however, after taking videos in 640x480 HQ format, I was easily impressed with the overall video quality, and extreme smoothness of the framerate.

All in all, I give this camera an 8.5

Great HD stills & Video

I bought this camera for my husband as I have one exactly like it and just love it. It is super easy to use, has great features, the H.D. pictures are outstanding.
I can actually read the stamp marks on jewelry better from a picture with this than with a loop.
The only down side is that the pics are such high quality, that some sites can't handle them when uploading, so I have to remember to set it at a lower pixel setting for those instances.
Once in a while it will freeze, not often, and I just pop out the battery & replace it.

Camera Lover.

I have bought many cameras over the years and have a collection of good but old outdated picture takers.
My favorite Camera I bought about two years ago on eBay is a Sony Cyber-shot H5.
It takes great photos and I will continue to uses for sometime.’
Its Big and is sometime hard to bring with me, some time.
So I wanted to get the latest and greatest small pocket camera.
I review all units and for the price and its Photo quality the Kodak easyshare V1253 seem to be the best option.
It has 12mp and a 3X optical and 2X digital lens.
Its fast and it can take fantastic pictures – You have to pick the right setting and allow the camera do it thing. It’s is a very good buy and deal. Has a great screen size.
I used it in all lighting and have got great results.
The negative- In bright sunlight you have a hard time seeing the screen to take pictures.
In some cases it takes time to get the right settings and you might miss a shot. The auto setting will cover most situations.
Would I buy it again ---YES!!!

Kodak EASYSHARE V1253 12.0 Megapixel

This camera is quite the little machine. I decided to buy this camera because I used to have a 7.2 megapixel camera that was getting on in years and was a beat up so I needed a replacement. I figure that because I am quite fond of taking pictures and wanted something high quality that I could depend on so when I saw 12 megapixels I was sold. I received the camera, immediately put it on charge, and when it was ready, went to using it. I was completely satisfied with it. The plethora of different modes such as weather and environment settings, stabilization, 720p HD movie quality, widescreen picture formats, and the weird one, the setting designed specifically for taking pictures of text, allow any user to take pictures of the highest quality regardless of their skills and minus the high quality camera price. Its also durable in that while I was hunting, I accidentally dropped the camera in the snow to the point where it couldn't be seen. Thankfully after getting the snow out of the lens and wiping it off throughly, it still functioned as if it never happened. The only thing about the camera that I have experienced was that maybe because that my product was refurbished, there is a little situation where when I take pictures of certain things, in certain location, and in some certain way (specifically at a party where I wanted to take pictures of a couple people) the camera will flash, the image does show back up, but after that the camera freezes, the screen goes black, and I have to take the battery out to reset it. I think that this is specific to my camera but its really not that big of a deal to me. All in all, this is the perfect camera for anyone to enjoy taking pictures with.Read full review...
