Lightweight with the minimum necessary features.

Is a simple, and inexpensive reader. It major disadvantage is it lacks off a backlight, that’s a feature I wish it has for reading during night time but nonetheless is awesome to read in this. Adding books is quite simple and if you are one of those homebrew guys, this little reader allows you to upgrade the internal storage with minimum effort. For me is the best and affordable reader to start your journey into reading.
Obviously not everything is good, I hate to connect it to a wifi network the keypad-keyboard combination is the worst I have used. PDF reading is quite hard and it gets worst if your pdf file have images, I can say this reader supports pdf files but that’s all, if you want to get the maximum potential use only epub files and you will be more than satisfied.

Good value, but not as good as a Kindle

I also have a Kindle, but Walmart e-books are Kobo so the price of the Kobo was OK, but I needed my computer to get the books on there and to
set it up... Weird...the Kindle does not require a computer to set it up. The power cord is not the same as my phone's so I got to switch out that cord with the kobo one to charge the Kobo...the battery life of the Kobo is no where near that of my Kindle either....

So, while cheap buy, you got to have a not so cheap computer to set it up and sync it to use it...you need a special cord to power it...and the battery life is not so hot...a Kindle is a better value...but, if you want to read e-books from Walmart you got to go Kobo sadly.

A real bargain

Great value for money.
Simple and efficient e-reader that works great and keeps things simple for the ones that just want to read a good book instead of playing with goofy gadgets.
The 1 Gb capacity is more than enough. You don’t even need the SD card. Just ask yourself: How many books do you read in 6 months? If you’re a fast reader, just plug it into your computer and start swapping titles.
The range of file types that it reads it’s not great. Bur just use an online converter and you’re good.

The main con: sometimes it becomes really slow if you want to go up and down on pages.

Conclusion: Great to read in a great price.

Great Buy For the Money

I bought this as a gift. I wasn't expecting too much since I didn't pay a lot for it (under $50) and refurbished. It is not a nook color and I wasn't expecting it to be, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Pros: lightweight, display is easy on the eyes, long battery life with wireless off. Books can be purchased or dowloaded from other ebook stores or web sites, can check out library books online with appropriate software, infinite selection of books from the Kobo site, plus many free books to download. Downloads and sync from my reader library worked perfect, all books were added as selected. Like the sleep mode--like this, saves on battery powere in case you forget to turn it off.

Cons: software glitches with wireless set up ( that could've been my pc though)--had to add my wireless network back to the reader a second time. The desktop software didnt show as installed on my pc, but then again, that could be the pc. So instead of looking for the software, I connect wirelessly with no problem or use the usb cable to transfer books from the Kobo site.

I WOULD buy it again, it will make a great extra ereader to have around. Have used it a few days and the ereader is working great, no problems with the ereader at all. GOOD BUY.

Unable to use

So far I have been unable to use this reader, when I connect it to my laptop, I get a list of folders, including Kobo_eReader_User_Guide, which is a pdf file. But when I try to open it with Adobe, I get a message saying Adobe is unable to open it, because either it is an unsupported file type or the file has been damaged. Read full review...

Wonderful eBook reader, but easily broken, and now too old for most modern DRM encrypted eBooks.

This is an excellent eBook reader, but it is a bit fragile, which I learned the hard way. The e-ink display is especially good in bright locations. I only wish the case was stiffer, to protect teh display from "bending" damage. My Kobo's screen cracked right across the middle of the screen from one side to the other because of that bending. That totally destroyed it as a book reader, but fortunately I was able to use a USB cable to retrieve all of my eBooks and store them in my laptop. I would buy another of these, but I would keep it in a protective box. However, this model is too old, and Kobo does not want to support it any more. Many new eBooks come with a Digital Rights Management encryption system this eBook reader does not support.Read full review...

Good product with very confusing method of downloading purchased books

The Kobo reader works well once you get the books downloaded. Borders collaborates with Kobo re book availability, however the desktop applications for Kobo and Borders are mutually destructive. If you put both applications on your desktop, which is intuitive from reading the Kobo instructions and then getting offers of books from Borders, the programs will wipe out what ever books you have on your Kobo from the My Library that are listed on the other application. Therefore you will only have the books left on your Kobo from the desktop application that you made the last transfer from. The Kobo Customer Service people appear to be unaware of this, or at least many of them are, making resolving this issue a tiresome process. The resolution varies dependent upon which person you talk to with one recommending to use only the Kobo application and the other using only the Borders application. It appears to be good hardware with difficulty in getting the books you purchase on it.

The font enlarging feature works well and was why I bought it, but the support system needs a great deal of work.

Be prepared to spend a few hours learning how to use the Kobo eReader

I did some research looking for an eReader that fit my needs. The Kobo seemed to fit. I've been playing with it for a few days now and these are my judgements:

Pros: A good screen at an affordable price. The controls aren't too sensitive. Ample storage space with room for much, much more.

Cons: There were no preloaded books as was promised in the advertisement (maybe because Borders is bankrupt?). I had to manually download the Kobo store app to my desktop. The controls could be sluggish and the user interface was not always clear.

Ultimately, I'm happy with this purchase, just be prepared to spend a few hours learning how to use it.

Wonderfully simple E-reader, but missing charger

Was just looking for a simple E-reader. No need for the latest Kindle, Nook, or Kobo, for they tend to be over $100 for a ton of extra bells and whistles. This E-reader is simple, yet does the job. Came in original box, but the charger was missing. I had an extra one in a junk drawer so no big deal.Read full review...

The real readers choice .

This thing offers nothing more than what's definitely needed, but those makes it perfect . It's handy, durable,. good to touch it . I had a concern about the size before, but the time i got it , i found that it's just perfect for reading .The 1 Gb memory too is more than enough .
For me the wifi connection is unnecessary too, i had better a brand original case for lack of wifi.
All with that i'm very satisfied .
