Vitamin D3 is not naturally present in very many foods, you get it from being out in the sun, so if you work indoors and don't do a lot of outdoor activities or live in a place where it rains a lot you probably do need a supplement. Vitamin D3 promotes health bone growth and formation so without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen. Vitamin D also helps to prevent rickets in children and osteomalacia or osteoporosis (along with calcium supplements) in adults and has other roles in your body including modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation. Expense wise Kirkland is lower price at 1/3 of the prescription rate. When I purchase anything I almost always do price comparisons. This DID seem to be a good price for one of the more common vitamins. I was happy to get it in a large volume since they keep well.
