You get less than what you paid for.
Solar charging was not enough, you need to hook it up to a charger, not included, or charge it via USB port. I think it was made in China and the instructions are minimal, by that I mean you almost need to use a magnifying glass to read them and still they are not very clear. Outstanding Utility
This Kaito KA500 is the best band for the buck of all the Kaito utility/emergency radios. Lacking only the multiple adapters furnished with the KA400, it wins out in all other areas. Analogue reception is aided by the use of Digital Signal Processing, noticeable by hearing the frequency "lock" as the tuning knob passes over a selected station. Audio is fairly well rounded considering the size of the cabinet and speaker. Just don't compare it to a full size portable or table radio.
In particular, I enjoy having the optional shortwave spectrum to listen to, since I have listened to shortwave from the 1950's to present. The addition of this spectrum makes this radio a true "world radio", useful in more places than just the USA. The dial indicator appears to be very accurate.
The sturdy cabinet ensures this radio to be around for a long time. The KA 500 is an outstanding value.

Very cool radio.
All the features like the ability to charge a mobile phone with the hand cranked dynamo are impressive in such a compact package.
Being able to run the unit off so many power options is great too. Solar, rechargeable “built in” battery pack, alkaline, USB etc.
the lights are ok but I didn’t expect a high end light to be built into an affordable device like this.
I like the fact that the battery pack is easily replaceable, I’ll be ordering a back up very soon.

The AM and FM and weather radio all work great. Sound quality is great. Not sure about the shortwave function, since I seldom listened to it, so I have nothing to compare it to. The radio runs several hours on a charge. The crank charger is smooth and works very well. The solar panel is worthless, but that's not a big deal. I usually charge with radio through the USB port.
