Great story.

I saw the same titled movie when I was young. It was in black and white. This newer version was much more enjoyable in color, and Brendon Frasier adds a twist of humor. The graphics in this version were much better. The dvd itself was used, and looked scratched up. I cleaned the disc, but it still looked scratched. However, it played flawlessly. Thanks for that! Brendan Fraser as the Center of the Earth!

While this movie is aimed mostly at a younger audience, adults will also find it highly entertaining.
Brendan Fraser plays a historian with a fondness for Jules Verne whose brother is missing. With his nephew, after finding a secret message in Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth, both embarked on a journey in the hopes of finding the brother and the center. Finding a relative of Verne atop a mountain, they do succeed in finding the center and a world beneath! It may seem absurd at times, but the overall effect is entertainment!Read full review...

GREAT VALUE!

Brendan Fraser, getting back into wholesome action-hero mode, plays Trevor Anderson, a scientist who specializes in tectonic physics. That was the life's work of his deceased brother, Max, whose 13-year-old son Sean (Josh Hutcherson) has now come to stay with Trevor for a few days. Trevor hasn't seen his nephew in years and barely knows the lad. Sean, sullen and heavily into his PSP (that's a portable video game system, old-timers), was only 2 or 3 when his dad disappeared.
Trevor finds his brother's old paperback copy of Jules Verne's A Journey to the Center of the Earth, in which Max made numerous elaborate notes detailing his theories on the potential reality of some of Verne's fanciful notions. Somehow this results in Trevor and Max dashing off to Iceland, where they seek to explore a particular mountain. Their guide is Hannah (Anita Briem), a fetching Icelandic woman whose late father also believed Verne's tales were more fact than fiction. She leads them up the mountain and into a cave, whereupon the three of them do indeed take a voyage, or "journey," if you will, to what you might call the "center" of the Earth.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Good movie. nice to get glasses with the dvd. action packed and funny.Professor Trevor Anderson receives his teenager nephew Sean Anderson. He will spend ten days with his uncle while his mother, Elizabeth, prepares to move to Canada. She gives a box to Trevor that belonged to his missing brother, Max, and Trevor finds a book with references to the last journey of his brother. He decides to follow the steps of Max with Sean and they travel to Iceland, where they meet the guide Hannah Ásgeirsson. While climbing a mountain, there is a thunderstorm and they protect themselves in a cave. However, a lightening collapses the entrance and the trio is trapped in the cave. They seek an exit and falls in a hole, discovering a lost world in the center of the Earth. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, BrazilRead full review...

Journey to the center of the earth

I had watched this movie in 2-D, enjoyed it, and purchased it in 3-D.
The effects were merely "ok",good for home viewing, i guess, but I've seen much better in theaters.
The movie itself was one which the viewer is not required to analyze the plot, or closely follow the action. in fact, if you do, the movie will suffer.
OF COURSE, events which occur are impossible ( or, implausable, if you insist ) but sit back and enjoy it.
Well worth watching and again.
On an evening when you want to watch a family movie with action, humor and an uncomplicated plot, this is it.
I put it in my category of "GOOD HEALTHY DOSE OF DUMB" along with "Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The Love Bug and any Don Knotts Movie.

Movie is worth it without the 3D.

3D wasn't working for me when I saw the movie in theaters so I decided to buy the movie. Didn't get 3D again, but I enjoyed the movie more than anything without the 3D aspect so honestly I'm happy with my purchase! I always wanted to buy the movie and now I own it. I love the energy and entertaining aspect of the movie. Also DINOSAURS! I love dinosaurs!Read full review...

Journey to the Center of the Earth

This is a comedic rendition of Jules Verne's famous book. The forgetful, sloppy Professor, the street-wise teenager and the pretty, smart, talented female, pure Hollywood. This is a poke at the Indiana Jones series movies. Lot's of screaming, Disney-style roller coaster rides, unexplainable animals in an underground Jurassic Park. The 'blue bird' was a bit too much to swallow (pun intended).
Having said that, once you realized this was a typical Brendan Fraser (George of the Jungle) movie with a lots of silly stuff, it became fun to watch. Predictable, silly, lots of special effects made it fairly easy to finish.
The PG rating makes it suitable for the younger viewer.
