The Next Seinfeld but on Cable TV

Take the best elements from Seinfeld and Arrested Development and you have It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Combining the social-degenerate-buddy formula (three men, one woman) with the beyond-dysfunctional-family element, Philadelphia creates scenarios that are so hysterical, wrong, appalling, familiar, embarrassing, uncomfortable, and entertaining, the show is addictive like staring at a car wreck when you know you shouldn't, but you just can't look away; it's invigorating like a fresh, loud, wake-up slap on the face. The writing, the quick timing, and the performances are so natural, one wonders if anyone is even acting (but hopes to heaven they are). Danny DeVito joined the cast in the second season, in one of the best roles on TV. DeVito is "Frank," the buddy dad that just wants to be part of the gang, the dad that looks good on paper, but the experience for his kids is more like taking care of a vicious dog that isn't potty-trained. Three of his four talented cohorts (Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and Rob McElhenney) not only star in the series, but write it as well. Thanks to their new take on old themes and a willingness to stretch the boundaries of appropriateness and exploit the audiences' inner insecurities, originality is back on TV. However, you may find that there's too much whining and not much comedy value instead. I can see it both ways, but I greatly enjoy this show. I was also able to watch the entire first two seasons easily in one weekend. I bought this item on ebay because I knew I could find a better bargain than if I had gone to Walmart or another store.Read full review...

Sunny On Philly = Seinfeld Squared

It’s basically Seinfeld on steroids. I LOVE Seinfeld and Love Sunny in Philly. Great Humor of 4 goofballs “owning and operating” a bar in South Philly. Danny Devito jumps in later in the series and is a great addition. This show is amazing and highly recommended for anyone who was a Seinfeld fan.Read full review...

Fun episodes, after a slow start

If you like betrayal and making schemes for personal benefit, then not only is something seriously wrong with you, but you’ll also probably like this series.

Well, outside of Season One, which was a rough, very slow start, but it’s entertaining, anyway. Plus, Danny DeVito!Read full review...

Always good to try something new

I am glad I bought this and watched the shows and at least I will understand references in popular culture. But some elements were not that entertaining. It was engaging and pleasant viewing, however not particularly endearing. I may try it again at some point.Read full review...

worth it..

For me it went kinda bad at midway thru season 2. Overly nasty . The actors ramped up the characters personalities and it just seemed like all mayhem and disrespect for each other instead of a tight group. I won't watch anymore seasons but I did enjoy hours of episodes before that happened. Worth watching. ThanxRead full review...

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Hilarious show! The price was great, can’t beat that. Less than $4. Shipping was fine, it wasn’t broken or scratched. The only down fall, instead the DVD says Season 1 AND Season 2, I only got season 1. That’s the only downside. Anything else, was good.Read full review...

Regarding It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Seasons 1&2

A few months ago, I stumbled onto Fx and saw an episode from the early portion of the 4th season. Since then, I've been trying to catch episodes, but they've mostly been random and more recent. The humor of the show is very fast paced and vulgar, in addition to the moments where the characters will just yell at each other for sometime. But as any would in real life, you just have to laugh at those awkward moments. The first season is a bit slower than the other two that are out, but it's still pretty funny, and it's a good starter to the show since although episodes can be watchable by themselves, there is a continuous storyline so the first season helps. My favorite episode is "Underage Drinking" and the characters of the show are just so frickin ridiculous you can't turn away. It's absolutely not politically correct, but that's what makes it so brilliant.

So Overall:
What I liked about it:
It's still hilarious & you just wanna see what the gang's up to.

What I didn't like about it:
Season 1 is a little bit slower in humor, but still funny nonetheless.

What am I going to do afterwards:
Well I bought season 3 and I'm trying to find a good bid for Seasons 1&2 (cause I had rented it) - But highly recommended! Peace!

laugh till your side hurts

this is very funny - its stupid, dumb and vulgar but so funny its ridiculous - four young, selfish people doing totally stupid things - bring in parents Danny Divito and Anne Archer and you have reasonably mature adults who also do totally stupid things - guest characters add even more stupidity and humor - things people probably would like to do but wouldn't dare try - so fun to watch - laugh out loud funny - pretty much on the level of Me, Myself and Irene but not quite as vulgarRead full review...

FREAKIN FUNNY

One of the most consistently funny shows of the last twenty years. All of the characters work - Devito especially slays - and despite their boorishness you can't help liking them. Probably not for those with a genteel nature due to language and mature themes. If you like shows such as "Reno 911" or "Curb Your Enthusiasm" you will probably be entertained.Read full review...
