Good performance, on the cheap!
With today's fury of processor choices one must look at the bottom line: Your wallet! Sure! I could have gone out and spent 4 times as much on similar newer procs for 35% to 40% increase on performance. I would rather spend my money elsewhere. And you can't beat these processors even if you tried!
Considering that these are the same ( or similar ) proces in a Mac Pro ( think trashcan) I now have a system (running linux) that can cut 4k video with the best of them. If you are drooling for V3/V4 like speeds but only have V1 type money. Give these babies a shot! they will not disappoint!Read full review

Works as they are supposed to. After socketing, it fired right up and adjusted to the changes. So nice. Very happy. Shipping was insane as well.

Low cost upgrade to 12-core/24 threads 2.7+ GHz performance if supported by your motherboard.
Works as documented. 12-core with 2 hyperthreads per core. I installed the CPU in a HP Z420 workstation with a version 2 motherboard that supports the Ivy Bridge-EP processors along with PCIe 3.0 slots.
Just remember to get some thermal paste to re-install your CPU cooler. I cleaned the CPU and cooler base with 90% rubbing alcohol, and then applied fresh thermal paste when installing the cooler. CPU runs fine with stock HP Z420 cooler.
Double-check your motherboard specs and install the latest firmware before upgrading the CPU. Some early Sandy Bridge motherboards may not support this newer Ivy Bridge CPU ... or they need updated BIOS.

Worked fine but, was it worth it?
Installed on my 2013 mac pro that had a quad core xeon and worked fine right after the long teardown to get it installed.
Was it worth it? I can't tell. I do lots of video work and a faster gpu would be what I really need but I hoped this 12 core would have helped a little. I see little to no difference in my use. At least it works fine, so that is a plus.Read full review

Max terminal upgrade for x79.
Great final upgrade to my old x79 sabertooth, never thought this platform would have 12 cores. Runs way cooler than a 3930k at 4.6 and destroys it in cinebench multi core as well. You can only oc it via bclk but still got a decent 12% oc with 112 bclk. Read full review
