Excellent, very fast CPU. If you know what you're doing and have right motherboard, you can reliably overclock this CPU from the base clock of 3.7 Ghz to 5.2 Ghz.
The Intel processors have a lower latency in nanoseconds compared to AMD processors. The Intel processors are faster for gaming and desktop applications, compared to AMD Ryzen. The only area where Ryzen processors perform better is in multicore encoding, which is something that is better performed by dedicated hardware.
For everyday desktop applications and gaming, you're better off with an Intel processor.
The i5 9600K overclocks to within 2% of the i9 9900K, so it's an excellent value. Read full review...

Perfect CPU
Really fast CPU!! I bought it to replace an old i7 4790k build. I was surprised that it is quicker and faster and games a lot better than it's predecessor at stock speeds! It runs comfortably cool on air, is stable and glitch free. Runs on an ASUS Z390 TUF with 32 gigs gskill ddr4 3600 ram, Noctua CPU cooler in a (new) sleeper Acer case. This 6 core processor is excellent it was easy to install in only minutes from unboxing to running. The i5 speed combined with 6 cores makes this a good alternative to the pricier i7 and i9 and not much lost in speed. Fast and cool, but lacks threads for multitasking. Superb gaming CPU.
The 9600K's only drawback is that it isn't hyper-threaded (1 core, 1 thread). But that's true of the entire 9 series until you get to the i9-9900K. This was Intel's answer to the pressure from AMD, much like the 7 series. BUT having said that, they made the cores faster, so gamers rejoice. This chip is faster than the 9700k, still has plenty of cores for the basics in video editing, and is more than the average user would need for most purposes. It also runs very cool in comparison to it's hyper-threaded siblings and the competition (although those are designed for more heat).
If you're only going to game, or aren't a video/audio editor or power user then this CPU is superb. It's also pretty much bulletproof as far as longevity. I've had 2 i9-9900k's go bad now, and switched both over to 9600k's both times. Again, it's faster than the 9700k, just 2 less cores for multitasking.Read full review...

Good choice for gaming
I had no changes using this after 6600k skylake. But when I tried Assasins creed bench, I went from 30 to 45 fps. It is sad that prices ju mped up so high. Skylake cost me 200 and this one was 260, but at least I was able to get it without tacks. If this goes on, this will be my last Intel CPU because the price of AMD cpu plus mobo goes about 30% cheaper on average for a very similar set.

Fast, Excellent Overclock and Low Heat
I run my processors in a distributed computing project which exerts 100% load 24/7/365. This processor is overclocked to 1.3v @ 5.0Ghz and runs that load 100% stable under a Deep Cool 240 Captain AiO water cooler reaching only 72c average.
Under lesser loads, like gaming, the processor is completely stable at 5.2Ghz and 1.37v but I have no reason to push it that hard.

An Outstanding CPU
Purchased this for a new build on a Z390 board. Originally aimed for the i7-9700k, but price and time constraints made the 9600k a better buy, and I must say I am extremely satisfied. Six physical cores, even without hyperthreading, can handle basically anything I can throw at it. With XMP settings on in BIOS, it overclocks to 5.0 GHz without breaking a sweat with an H115i. Even under heavy load while playing games, rarely gets above 60⁰C.
