Motor city Boogeymen

Their first album of a somewhat short career...Their reworking of the Animals' et. al...."House of the Rising Sun" is worth the price of the cd alone.A Hard Rock, blues, boogie, Garage punk band from Detroit; not Holland as many assumed by the spelling of their name....this first entry by them is chock full of rockers and blues-based boogie ala Canned Heat,Savoy Browne and Cactus....with titles like "Drivin' Blues", I'm on my Way and the song mentioned above....they are of the same "pedigree" as fellow "Motor-City" Rockers as the MC5,the Stooges,The Ambouy Dukes and Grand Funk Railroad, who all dominated the music scene of the early seventies and had a a Heavy influence on future Rock Bands of the late 70s and the eighties.I also recommend their second entry "DEFROSTED"Read full review...

Crank It!

The first two tracks, "God Gave Me You" and "Crying Shame," saunter along nicely enough. It's not until the third cut, "I'm on My Way," that the band begins to kick out the jams—and Frijid can rock, no doubt about it! Check out my fav, a cool cover of the Yardbirds' "Drivin' Blues." And yeah, the band's cover of "The House of the Rising Sun" (#7 in 1969) will make you grin like a monkey. The drum solo in "I Want to Be Your Lover" is nothing short of wicked. "Boozin' Blues," a lovely bluesy number that plants you squarely in the middle of a smokey dive, slows the pace to end the original album. Two bonus tracks are included, "Heartbreak Hotel" (Elvis would have hidden under his bed in horror) and "Music for the People" (Imagine a hymn and choir at a progressive church service).

So what's the verdict? Crank it up and then, well, crank it up again.

No text. Very brief liner notes. The album reached #11 in 1970.

A 60's Band.

An awesome band. Changing singers 3 times for 3 albums This self titled first album hovers in the psychedelic genre. Features the cover of "The House of the Rising Sun" A very well done cover. Good music of the late 60's.Read full review...

House of the rising SUN

I BOUGHT THIS CD ONLY FOR THE SONG "HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN". I AM PLEASANTLY SURPRISED THAT BOTH VERSIONS ARE ON IT AND I DO ENJOY OTHER SONGS ON IT ALSO. I THINK IF YOU ARE A BUBBLE GUM MUSIC PERSON LIKE ME BUT YOU LIKE LED ZEPPELIN AND CREAM YOU WILL ALSO LIKE THE REST OF THIS CD. Read full review...
