Awesome Open-World Game. Lots to explore.

It's been 16 years and this game still holds up to the test of time with its amazing open world exploration. Yes the graphics are dated. And the PS3 takes some time to load. But this game is still amazing.Read full review...

Description isn’t accurate

I’m a collector and I purchased this trusting the description, which states that a map and poster are included. Game looks decent but only has map. I only wanted the poster. Thanks for the backup copy, anyway.Read full review...

Fallout 3 GOTY-As buggy as the regular edition

The game itself, with the 5 download packs, is still great. The expansions vary in their levels of quality, but overall for the price a regular game, you will receive that plus $50 worth of additional content (if you had bought on the PSN Store).

The problem is not with game content, but rather freezing issues. The darn thing keeps freezing at random spots, which has resulted in having to save after doing anything that you don't want to risk having to do over. It really takes away from the gaming experience, and is the only reason I did not rate this release as an excellent, 5 star affair. If you can tolerate the bugs, then prepare for one of the best Action-RPG experiences you will ever place your hands on.

Great Game and Bonus Content

After being a long time player of Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and Fallout 3, I was really excited to play Fallout 3: Game of the Year with all the added content.

The basic game play of Fallout 3 is similar to other Bethesda games such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The environment is open world and brimming with detail. There are plenty of caves, canyons, and city ruins to explore. The map is very large and open ended. The player truly gets a feel of this post apocalyptic future as he/she travels through it.

The game qualifies as a Shooter / RPG. There is an emphasis on guns and although it is possible to use only melee weapons, it really isn't practical. There is a lot of violence and foul language (giving it an M ESRB rating) but it is not distasteful.

The best features of the game are the sheer amount of content. At ant point you will have plenty of activities and quests to do. The characters are well designed and you will experience an attachment or hate of characters as they come. The add-ons are well made and fit very well into the story. Some of the add-ons are short, taking only 5 hours or so to complete, but with 5 extra add-ons, they are more than enough to make the Game of the Year addition worth the extra cost. The player can play as a variety of character types with emphasis on certain skills such as sneak, science, barter etc., and choosing a path of Good or Evil. This gives opportunities for multiple play-throughs with different experiences.

The worst aspects of the game are numerous bugs and glitches. At one point this reviewer had the game freeze and lock-up on average once every hour. Sometimes enemies will fall through the floor and characters will float, get stuck or otherwise act unusually. Also, sometimes quests will not work as they are supposed to, and the difficulty balance of the add-ons can be skewed if the play attempts them early into the adventure. These glitches and bugs did not affect game play so much that this reviewer would stop playing and if you are familiar with the original Fallout 3, these won't be any worse or better that what you've already experienced.

Overall, Fallout 3: GotY is an great adventure with only minor technical quirks keeping it from attaining excellence, and would be appropriate for new and veteran gamers of the Fallout 3 world.

Great game,

This is an awesome game that will keep you busy for hours. The Game of The Year Edition means you will get all the downloadable content that came out after the game released. Each download adds even more hours of gameplay. Even if you have never played the other fallouts, Fallout3 is easy to understand and play. For those who have played fallout series before, you can change the difficulty to challenge yourself. The biggest flaw with the game is all of the glitches it has. It freezes randomly or gets stuck in a loop, forcing you to restart from your last save. I noticed with my new 160gig PS3, there are a lot less glitches and it hardly ever freezes. But with my old 60gig it froze quite frequently. So to sum it up this is a great game that almost anybody can get into no matter what types of game you enjoy to play.Read full review...

Awesome Product. Great Deal. Flaws hurt the experience.

I discovered Fallout 3 by accident, buying the orginal copy when CC went out of business. I am addicted, but hit Level 20 quickly. So I was happy to hear about the GOTY that included all 5 expansions and an increased level cap (now 30). The game is great, but the GOTY disc is flawed. It is much slower to load, transition between areas, and is generally buggy and boggy. Over 3 sessions, it has hard frozen 3 times, requiring a reset. My old copy did this once in 100 hours. Scrolling through menus is slower, and when an enemy appears on your radar, you can tell because it skips and jerks. I've also had instances of the voice-acting being low volume or not synced. This is all concerning, and takes the fun out of it a bit, but what is most troubling is that the BRD seems to be mastered in such a way that the disc is always seeking. It's like 2 files the game needs are on opposite ends of the disc, so you hear the BR drive seeking like crazy. I have an original 60GB, so I can't afford for the drive to wear out! Never had this problem with the original. That being said, I have heard that the DLC adds the same slowness and problems. It's hard to down-rank this incredible game, but the GOTY version is a big letdown in performance.Read full review...

Glitches Galore!!!

You'd think Bethesda work have it all worked out by now, but I guess they like to make "buggy" games! The Fallout series is GREAT, especially Fallout 3, I upgraded to GOTY, it's got more bugs, but not as bad of freeze ups. Point is, if your patient and save often, Fallout GOTY is an Awesome game!Read full review...

"Immersive and Delightful"

I haven't finished it yet, but after about 20 hours I'm fairly hooked. I experience occasional glitches, but those may be due to my older machine. The NPC's are well voice-acted, the exploration elements are incredibly satisfying, and the vistas are jaw-dropping. You will hit points of frustration where you die due to misunderstandings or too-specific level design, but these are irrelevant if you save frequently. (In face, finding your way past these obstacles is engaging and part of figuring the world out for yourself.) There is nothing on-rails about Fallout 3.Read full review...

Awesome game

Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition is definitely a very fun game to play. Depending on your choices in the game you can have so many different outcomes to the ending. You can play the main objective only or choose side quest which makes the game last a lot longer. Depending on your choice on how you want to play the play time is pretty extensive, you are not going to finish this game real quick like most other RPG style games I have played.
I have recommended this game to quite a few friends and they too have enjoyed playing this game. Bethesda Softworks makes other games that I also find enjoyable to play such as Oblivion: GOTY Edition which is a lot like Fallout 3 GOTY Edition but with swords and magic. Fallout 3 takes place in a post nuclear war Washington D.C. and you fight all types of enemies using weapons that range from your bare hands to mini nuke launchers. The add-ons that are included with the GOTY Edition take you to different places to give the game a little different feel, not taking place in the D.C. area, such as the Point Lookout add-on takes place close to D.C. area in a swamp with backwoods redneck people trying to kill you and ghouls, even on the easy setting these rednecks are pretty difficult to kill. Compared to the "normal" game this makes it more challenging to play, in the "normal" game the enemies I have been coming across have been fairly easy to dispatch with the weapons I am using.
Only one thing could possibly make this game a little more interesting, online play. This is a single player only game and the friends I have recommended on getting the game and myself wish we could party up to fight and accomplish objectives with each other. I really do not think a massive role playing game would go over big with this game though, just a few friends(2-4 players) getting together to play when they wanted to.
I do not think a person is going to be real upset with this game if they like playing RPG style games. The size of the Fallout 3 world is huge, plenty to explore with a lot of freedom. If you walk from one end of the world to the other end then you have spent plenty of time doing so.
The game is rated "M" for the bad language and possibly some sexually suggestive dialogue, nothing real bad in my opinion if you allow your children to watch PG-13 or more mature rated movies or even TV shows.

For about $50 this is definitely worth the it. On the PSN store the Down Loadable Content(DLC) is worth $10 each which comes to $50 just for the DLC. This game is also visually stunning, I think the graphics on a HDTV look spectacular. 720P is all you would need for this game and I could only imagine if the game would have been done in 1080p what the game would have looked like then.
