Great- but, grab the Game of the Year Edition if you can

This is probably the best bang for your buck as far as modern Fallout games go. However, you will be missing a ton of added content if you don't go for the game of the ear or complete editions of the game- things that make the game much friendlier for new players, and allow for a better experience in a wasteland world that's very scarce on resources. That makes this normal version of the game significantly more challeging to play.Read full review...

Great game but bad port

Fallout 3 is a classic title in the fallout franchise but playing this gem on ps3 is a bittersweet adventure, the game looks and plays fine but you can't play for more than an hour at a time without it freezing your console.Read full review...

Fallout 3 (Playstation 3)

Fallout 3 is perhaps one of the best rpg games out there on PS3. It's gameplay style is similar to Elder Scrolls: OBlivion, with its open-world gameplay, its many quests, and its interesting quest plots.
Fallout 3 exhibits a different leveling system compared to Oblivion. Levels are earned by gaining experience points, which can be obtained through completing quests, killing enemies, picking locks, hacking computer terminals, etc, as opposed to the leveling in Oblivion that is driven by leveling up major skills. Characters in Fallout 3 are determined by the distribution of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats.
S = Strength
P = Perception
E = Endurance
C = Charisma
I = Intelligence
A = Agility
L = Luck
Each of these stats governs a set of skills, ranging from Lockpicking, Computer Hacking, Medicine, Energy Weapons, Big Guns, Sneak to Small Guns, Barter, etc.
Fallout 3 offers a unique combat system called V.A.T.S. which basically functions like an auto-target system with varying percentages for specific body parts, such as the head, legs, or torso. The VATS combat system is fun at first, but may seem some what repetitive as the game progresses.

The lack of variety of enemies and creatures in the game is a little bit disappointing, but the game is nevertheless worth playing. The different locations and landscape and quests available to the player certainly makes up for the lack of monster/creature variety.

Fallout 3 is a definite must play, and its downloadable content that will be coming to the PS3 makes it even more so.
Rating: 8.5/10

*All of the above is my personal opinion.

Fallout 3 very different than most shooters

I like the games RPG atmosphere and the fact that you can do anything you want (to a degree)when compared to first person shooters. VATS shooting mode is unique and slows things down so you can target individual parts of the victim with incredible cinematics that are both graphic and dramatic, fun compared to other shoot-em-ups but honestly not as satisfying as say COD:MW2. I found targeting erratic in regular shooting mode with a "too" small pipper.
I like the kooky post nuclear war world and the rummaging aspect of things.
I like the ability to gather some things without weight detriment.
I like odd stuff that happens seemingly for no reason.
I don't like raiders (so far) apparently you can't reason with them although some cower and run away.
I like the pip-boy device and radio, gives it a cool feel.
I don't like nightime too much as it is pretty dark (no kidding! gosh why would that be) but seriously just a little hard to get use to.
I gave this a good because there are some glitchy parts. Overall real fun but not action packed which is exactly as a RPG should be. I call this a less addictive WOW alternative for one. Only played a few hours but it definitely draws you in and makes you think a little. Karma thing is cool.
Recommended but only for older players and thinkers, probably lame for young kids and ADD, hyperactive types.

Good Game...Few Issues

I really enjoy playing this. I played it on the xbox 360 and I think they are about the same. I had a few issues while playing this though. It would make my TV reset for no reason. I am unsure if it is the game or the TV but it only happens while playing this game.
The openess of this game is great. You start out and once you grow up you can go and pretty much kill anybody and do anything you want. You are free to go wherever you want.
There are a few issues I have though.
1. Leveling up does not make it easier to kill enemies, they level up with you which means if you know what you are doing you can go anywhere and kill anything.
2. The TV thing but like I said I am unable to recreate this in any other game so I am not holding it against this game.

I really do enjoy playing this and it has a good story. You cannot beat the openess of it. I was a huge fan of Morrowind and this comes close but it still is not as good as far as progression of your character. However, I prefer this game over Oblivion.

I recommend this game if you want something you can sink quite a few hours in and hopefully some Downloadable content will be released that will remove the cap at the end of the game.

If you have the choice between the xbox 360 and ps3. I would go with the xbox version for the downloadable content. But, this is still a good buy for the ps3.

Fallout 3 sets a new bar of excellence

Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10
Sound: Great – 8.5/10
Gameplay: Spectacular – 9.5/10
Replay Value – High (for a single player only game) 9/10
Overall – Near Perfect 9.5/10

Please note: I have never played any prior Fallout Titles, and this is from a n00b prospective.

Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10
The graphics are make you look twice – When you first exit the vault and see the landscape, you think to yourself “what next”? The graphic interface, use of PiP Boy and the movements really show that Bethesda took the time and care to make this well worth your hard earned money.

Sound: Great – 8.5/10
The sounds, music, effects, and voices take you immediately into the game. The time specific music, the radio channels, and the voice acting are all A+. The reason for the slightly lower mark is the repetitiveness of the radio, some of the sound effects, but overall, a lot of time, and thought, went into putting in effective music, voice acting and emphasis, and surrounding wasteland. The best, yet simplistic feeling is when you first turn on this gam for the first time, and all you hear is the old 50’s radio sparking on with the tube. Well done.

Gameplay: Spectacular – 9.5/10
Smooth animations, huge world design, and interactive and smart A.I. This game can be streamlined to do the main quest, or you can help the citizens of wasteland in their personal affairs. The single player game takes a lot of chances, but succeeds, in making the player make hard choices and customizing the game to their own path. Some find out too late that it is important to make hard choices to choose which attributes to build up. This aspect alone warrants multiple play times.

Some critics and players are commenting on the ending (no spoiler), but I must say that for the amount of customization a person can have in this game, it goes right along with the story.

Replay Value – High (for a single player only game) 9/10
Even without multiplayer, this game has replay value with the limitless ways you can play as – via good, bad, neutral, thief, etc. This did not feel like an RPG to me, and was well done to the point that I am on my second playthrough.

Overall – Near Perfect 9.5/10
I am not a fan of RPG’s, nor long drawn out games over 30+ hours, but I was swept away in this post apocalyptic wasteland. This holiday season is rough with the shear amount of great games, and this is definitely in the Top 5 for contention of game of the year.

This would normally be a game I would run from, but I rented it, and then bought it. It is so engrossing that others will want to watch you play and help you make those hard choices.

The game is not perfect, but close to. The story flows, as with the action, and it makes you feel as if you were there with your character trying to survive.

It has elements taken from genres such as RPG, puzzlers, action-adventures, but is not pigeonholed into this experience and to say it is an RPG is gives too little credit. This is an experience that should be played by any hardcore gamer.

Interesting game

If you like games you can play for a while this would be one of those. At first I hated it I didn't think I was going to do very well. But after I got into it and figured some things out the game really has some neat points. There tons of "quests" to accomplish. Some are tied in to others. You do things and get "money" or items in return. There is a lot more to this game than any FPS i've ever played. This definitely more of a role playing game mixed with FPS though.

*You can repair your own weapons or pay to have them upgraded.
*There are caravans that you can purchase aid, weapons, junk, and ammo.
*As you gain experience points your levels increase and the amount of enemies you face and the difficulty level of your enemies increase.
*There are numerous skills that you need to make your way through the "wasteland" (lockpick, medical, science, repair...)

Overall a very good game. And I have always been a FPS gamer.

Fallout 3 for PS3

I'm usually wary of buying used games but buy them when they are hard to find or a great price. This game was in great condition, it was in it's original case and had the manual included and the disc had no scratches. Read full review...

War never changes.... and neither does Fallout 3

PROS:
- Great presentation with a lots of details
- Well achieved post-apocalyptic scenarios
- Huge detailed cities and landscapes with a lot of freedom to do pretty much whatever you want>- Every decision you make affects how the world around you reacts
- Classic Fallout story that doesn’t disappoint
- Interesting combat modes
- Great animations and effects (specially the gore stuff)
- Leveling up for perks is a lot of fun and becomes addictive
- Lots of cool & creative weapons
- Long single player campaign (around 25 hours that can be expanded to over 100 with all of the side quests and they are fully re-playable as an evil or good character)

CONS:
- Some minor bugs & glitches
- A little more details in the characters would have been good, but they are ok
- No multiplayer, but hey! Fallout never had one so just contemplate the greatness of its singleplayer.

*Just as a WARNING, this is a Role Playing Game and not a First Person Shooter, so don’t except Halo-like action, its different, but equally enjoyable.
*Another warning on this game is that it is not suitable for kids, the dialogs and goreish action is for mature gamers.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
It is hard to compare this game with first 2 games, as the gameplay mechanics are a bit different, but even standing in the shadow of its predecessors Fallout 3 stands on its own as great game. You’ll immerse into the best post-apocalyptic world ever made

You must have in mind that the developers of this game are the same guys from The Elders Scroll IV: Oblivion, and at first you might feel like playing a modification of that game, but after a while you realize that Fallout 3 is completely unique and in a lot of ways better than Oblivion.

Fans of the series will most probably love the return of the post apocalyptic RPG trades and for new comers the games takes a little time to get used to, but it eventually grows on you in a really nice way and you’ll enjoy all of the huge amount of gadgets, weapons, quests, side quests, characters, humor, enemy dismemberment and complete freedom that Fallout 3 offers.

It is definitely a must-have for hardcore gamers and a serious contender for “game of the year award”. An instant new classic for all gamers, just as its predecessors.Read full review...

Hope you have A LOT of time for Fallout 3...

Fallout 3 is a game that takes you to an alternate future in which the world has been permanently changed—for worse—after the fall of nuclear warheads on Earth. To prevent human extinction the U.S. government made “Vaults,” which are underground dwellings for residents to live in while the world suffers the aftermath of the war. While the Vaults are safe, the rest of the world is in chaos with the left over radiation. The animals that have survived have become mutated into violent beasts, and the humans that have miraculously survived in the world have been permanently changed into mindless ghouls or have become raiders that harass any good people (who probably came out of vaults). The Earth has lost its plants, and the little fresh water has become irradiated. The world seems to be a doomed place, thus earning the new name “The Wasteland.” Sadly, you are born into this world, but you have a choice as to how you will live in it…
The game begins with your birth 200 years after the nukes in one of the last surviving Vaults. This game is like none-other because of its focus on choice—the players choice. Everything you do in this game, from beginning to end, can—and usually does—alter some other aspect of the game. From the start, you are born and asked to customize your character by gender and appearance, there are choices for not only what you look like, but how your character will act in different situations. Keep in mind that this game is an RPG (Role Playing Game) and not a first person shooter like Halo. You can play through the game as a good character, and help the people of the wasteland. Or, you can be the worst person to ever come to the wasteland, and kill the people who test your patience. (Warning: you can literally kill everyone—except the few children—found in the wasteland, but then you will never have anyone to talk to or get missions from!)There is an outrageous inventory of items you can choose from, including drugs that provide a temporary boost, but can make you suffer from withdrawal if you get addicted. Everyone you meet will usually have something to say, and you will be able to respond in a way appropriate for your characters moral code.
Fallout 3 not only allows for alternate responses to every conversation you have, it has hundreds of locations on its enormous map. There is no set way to play this game because you are allowed to go anywhere from the moment you first step out of your home-vault. You could chose to go north, west, east, or south on the world map and find the nearest town. The replay value is nearly endless with Fallout 3 because of the seemingly infinite items and weapons you can acquire, responses you can give, and missions you can choose to do or ignore—not to mention that you can change the order in which you do everything (even missions).
The problem with Fallout 3 is actually one of the best parts of the game; its length. It is a VERY long game that can get intimidating at times. After spending hours getting to know one town or location, it can be a bit disappointing to have to learn a completely different place just when you felt you knew the wasteland. Eventually, you may find yourself putting the control down, and taking a long break from the exhausting world of Fallout 3. But once you’ve had your break, you’ll be ready to dive back into the action and amazing stories that you will play through in this game.
Score 9/10
I hope this helped in your decision. Good Luck and Happy Gaming!

Pretty solid RPG, not so great shooter

The RPG end of it is very cool, although definitely not for kids. Open environment and non-linear missions give it the feel of legitimate choice-based RPG. The 1st person shooter aspect is a little clunky. It takes forever to kill anything and aiming is very difficult. They try to incorporate a hybrid turn-based RPG style combat mode into the brawls but they seem pretty ineffective, too. I'm only a few hours into the game so hopefully this gets easier. Small critters like bloatflies and radroaches can devastate you HP before you reach your mission destination because it takes about 20 rounds to kill them. This costs you cash, which is pretty scarce, and time. All in all so far so good. Hopefully as the character gets stronger the random animals will be less threatening and more of a nuisance. Story is pretty good in a dark humor kind of way.Read full review...
