Works great only a small quirk.

Works great. We bought this to use with a TV in the bedroom and the only small annoying quirk is the layout of the remote. To use the arrow buttons and so forth for DVD menus it is difficult to do in the dark because all of the buttons are the same. Other than that small annoying quirk where you have to turn on a light in a dark bedroom to see where the buttons are, the thing works great and we've had no problems.Read full review...

One costly bad function, three functions good

I bought the Funai DV220FX4, a VCR/DVP combo box. At $80 it is much less expensive than other new VCRs (which are scarcely being manufactured now). On the carton it says “in-line recording.” That means it doesn’t have a tuner. I checked with my cable company, whose agent told me that the DTV box it supplied to transmit digital signals to my TV is a tuner. However, it turns out that little DTV box has only one coaxial input jack (from antenna or wall cable) and one coaxial output jack (to carry signal to the TV). In principle that output jack could be routed to the Funai VCR, with output from the VCR going to the TV. In that way one can watch a live program, and/or record that program (directly or via timed setting). But the Funai does NOT have a coaxial input jack; it has input jacks for the RCA-type yellow (video) and white (audio) cables. Therefore one has to find intermediate equipment that will 1) have an input jack for a coaxial cable, 2) appropriate internal wiring to transmit the signal, and 3) output jacks for yellow and white plugs on a cable that has yellow and white plugs at both ends. ‘Cable box’ is too vague a designation, a ‘converter box’ did not work, and it is not an ‘RF modulator.’ When I called the Funai help desk, the semi-competent agent could not identify the needed equipment but assured me that Walmart, where I bought the combo, would have it. I could not find it at 2 Walmarts (clerks had either no or the wrong ideas about what to use); nor at 2 Best Buys, 1 Target, 2 Radio Shacks or one comprehensive hardware store. Finally online I located an ‘RF demodulator’ that had the requisite jacks. It cost $81 including shipping, which doubles the cost of the Funai combo. I have all the needed cables and connected it easily. The scheme did NOT work; the TV showed a flickering black-peppered white screen, accompanied by very loud static. My cable company says it has the box I need, which it rents at $10 a month. I gave up and returned the Funai, etc.. The other 3 functions, play a VCR, play a DVD video and play a music CD all work well; if that’s all you want, the Funai is satisfactory.Read full review...

It works

This is the digital device tool if you're holding on to the old way of viewing movies - there is no tuner for analog is dead and it cannot record in stereo but plays in that format of stero well.>
Worth the purchase - it no much to look at but get the job done.

Satisfied with product

Since there's no remote, it doesn't want to go to other options on the DVD menu using the buttons, but I'd only need to do that to watch foreign films to choose sub and sub options, so it's fine for English movies. All the buttons work in general tho. My kids like to watch Disney movies on VHS, so I love it overall. (:Read full review...

I like it!

So far the Funai is working very well. It does seem kind of "light weight"... on the cheaper side. I am using it to copy VHS tapes to my computer then transferring them to DVDs. The product came in the original box, with all of the parts, books, etc. I am pleased.Read full review...
