A professional printer if ever I ever saw one.

I owned a Epson Photo printer back in 98 and then in 2005 got the Photo Stylus 340 and I used it till it finally dies and then got another 340 and then this year had to get a replacement since it wasn't doing too well.
I will not get another PHOTO printer as long as I live since no one can tell my photos I print on photo paper that that you get from a professional photo shop. No one cam tell the difference between their or mine....

Purchased for the Direct printing to CD & DVD and it is good quality.

I fault the Epson for three reasons. One, print heads clog very quickly, Two unless you have your ink surplus hooked up to an outside container the pads will fill quite quickly and cause maintenance problems that require service techs and that is expensive. Three, I purchased this printer especially for the direct printing to CD's and DVD's capability. Worked great for a while, now I have to nudge the tray to get it to forward. I have purchased four of the 340 model, one is still working. I have since purchased the canon MK922 and it is so much better in all respects.Read full review...

Good photo printing, with extra features.

I got this printer about a month ago. I'm about half way through my second set of ink cartridges, and I've been happy with the quality of the prints. This is a good printer, and it has some nice features. It is a six color photo printer, so the prints are far more detailed than a cheap 4 color inkjet. It also uses seperate ink cartridges, so you can replace only the empty color and not waste ink. Inkjet photo paper gives a far better print than standard copy paper, but it is much more expensive.
Using the memory card slots and the small display lets you print without even turning on your computer. The computer can access a card in the printer, but for some reason if the card's contents are changed by the computer the printer won't realize it unless you remove the card and put it back in.
You can print on CDs and DVDs with the included tray, and there is also an insert for the tray to print on mini CDs and DVDs. The included software works, but it isn't that user friendly. It WILL keep you from overspraying outside of the disc's surface, but that's about the best thing about it.
Overall, this is a good printer, but there is nothing new or revolutionary about it. Nice features, good print quality and speed, and fairly quiet while printing.

Great printer for printing CDs

This is the second R340 I've purchased. I bought my first one years ago to replace an R300, and the R340 has been a real champ. Because I go through a lot of ink printing CDs, I did put a continuous ink system on the printer, as well as an ink recovery bottle on the back. These two options/modifications to the printer not only make it cheap to operate, but extend the life (as I think I got two or three ink pad resets out of my previous R340, before the black on the print head degraded to the point where the unit was no longer usable -- and thus I purchased this used unit, which works just fine).Read full review...

LARRY ROE recording artist review of epson stylus

I, bought this to do small runs of cds. I have a small recording company and i wanted to be able to put out specific small numbers of several types of cd prints at one time with out having to order a large number from a professional print place. So far the machine does a great job of this. It does NOT kick out the cd as i had heard before it prints.....its not really easy to do takes constant changing of cd etc.....one thing i think should be improved on is the little peice of clear plastic on the cd tray....it is not only vital to the printing but it is fragile also. So they should either sell trays seperately or make that piece more sturdy. It is that piece of plastic being removed or bent that i think makes the machine kick out the cd tray .....so those that did that previously its probably why theirs didnt work they removed that thinking it was part of the packaging. I have to keep making sure that its not bent and thats the one big thing i dont like about this. HEY EPSON FIX THE DARN PIECE OF PLASTIC......however having said that for the price i guess i couldnt ask for much more it does what i needed it to do always seems to print well. Oh yah and buy my cd look for LARRY ROE on ebayRead full review...

Great printer for a geek

THE GOOD: This is a great printer if you are techically minded. This printer has exellent print quality and uses 6 cartridges (2 blues, 2 reds, black and yellow) which allows for individual replacement. Non-OEM replacement ink and refillable cartridges that don't need to be reset are abundanant and cheap and the inks I've found are just as good if not better than OEM. This printer can print straight from a USB, SD card and other forms of flash media. The printer can print on CD or DVD and has fairly good software for it. There are a number of after market add on devices such as CISS and Wireless etc. The software installation is straight forward and painless.
THE BAD: This Printer utilizes a "waste ink system" which basiclly flushes ink down tube during print head cleaning and charging (The cartridges have to charge after being changed) the ink flows down a tube and is collected in a waste ink pad at the back of the printer, the system has a counter and once this system has reached a set number it stops printing, the printer still works fine, everything will move just like normal, just no ink will print onto the page, to fix this you will either have to take the printer to a tech and pay to have it serviced or you'll have to know how to do it yourself (Hence the techy part) there are ways to go around that and there are a number of videos out there showing pretty good step by step instructions.
I guess I can understand printer manufactors not wanting their products to be used for illegal purposes, but one thing with this printer which is kind of stupid is some pictures will not be recognized from flash media, meaning you can have a 100 images on a USB flash, plug it in to the printer and if the images were copyrighted or have an embeded watermark the printer will say 0 images found, this is stupid because you can still print it from the computer.
This printer IS NOT for everyone, using the CD Printing feature is exacting and jams easily, the CD holder is easy to break and/or misplace and the manual forgets to say that when printing the CD tray extends out the back and to leave room. The feed section is not what it could be and you have to be carefull not to over fill it, to much paper and it'll jam, jam it the wrong way and the plastic gears inside strip and can not be repaired (For less than the cost of a new printer)
OVERALL: This printer is a very good printer for someone that is doing very serious printing and is knowledgeable in this area, other than that, this printer is overkill, all of the features are great, but most printers can perform the same task.

Easy Printing Made Easier

I simply love this printer. Very easy to use with or without a computer. It allows you to use all the popular memory cards (From your digital camera) for printing right from the memory card without the need for a computer. Allows you to see the images from the memory card right on the printer. Also very easy to print on printable CD-R's or printable DVD's. The software program included, (Epson Print CD), allows easy interface with my scanner so I can scan images and print them on paper or CD-R's or DVD's. The only slightly negative comment I have is the plastic tip of the CD tray could be made better to avoid jamming but otherwise an excellent product. Highly recommended.Read full review...

Epson Stylus R340 InkJet Photo Printer.

I was completely fed up with the stick on style CD labels. They were so frustrating. A bubble here, off center there, etc... So I started pricing quality label makers. Very nice, at not a very nice price. I couldn't justify 1200-3000 for my personal usage. I found this on Ebay NIB at an excellent price and after researching it on the net decided to go with it. I have been extremely pleased! From the first CD I printed they have all come out perfectly! I was also leery of the individual ink containers. I'm used to the all color or B&W cartridges. But, again when two of my colors went down much quicker than the others it was much less expensive to remedy and I found a wonderful seller on Ebay that sells them in bundles, again I saved a fortune! I think about 70% off MSRP. If you read this and would like the seller's link, drop me a line and I'll be happy to supply it. IF you enjoy labeling your CD's and DVD's I highly recommend this, as the printer works, equally as beautifully, which is another main concern, as I am very serious about my prints coming out professional looking. I usually work my dig pics in Photoshop, so I don't have a lot of use for the lcd screen and camera memory stick slots, however, if you are into printing straight from your camera, I don't see that you could want for anything else with this model. (Do keep in mind that you must purchase pre-labeled CD's & DVD's. I didn't find them to be priced much higher than regular CD's by shopping around a bit online.)Read full review...

AWESOME!!!!!

If you're looking for a good photo printer, THIS is the one you should get! I got this a couple of years ago and totally love it! The quality of the photos come out great. I also love the CD printing tray. This printer can also do bleed prints too, and they look great!

As with most inkjet printers, though, ink can be a little costly. This, however, allows you to replace individual colors, which can really help save on ink costs. The cartridges can still be a little pricey, but at least you only have to replace the color that's low instead of an entire color cartridge.

Also note...DO NOT use generic or third-party inks. Even if they seem to work fine with the printer, the colors and quality really suffer. I usually don't fall for brand loyalty, but in this case you're way better off spending the little extra money and get the actual EPSON inks. I guarantee you'll be happy with your purchase if you stick to just the EPSON products.

The Epson R340 is King of the Inkjet!

Being a life-long Epson printer lover, I recently upgraded from the R220 to the R340 and I'm very glad that I did. The R340 is loaded with features that you would have to pay hundred more with other manufacturers. While they're too many to mention in this review, I especially like being able to connect my camera directly to the printer, crop, push print and voila! 4x6 borderless Lab quality prints in less than 15 seconds WITHOUT using my PC. You can also make prints from all Memory Card formats without using your PC which is also another cool feature among many. Since I make a lot of them, I also enjoy the ability to print directly onto CDs & DVDs. This saves me a lot of money by not having to buy CD/DVD labels and any/all problems associated with them that I've had in the past, i.e., bubbles, off-center problems, peeling, etc.; By printing directly on them, I get a much more professional look to them which I really like. As for ink, the 6 color way is the ONLY way to go. In the long run you do save money whether you use Epson OEM inks or other brands. I have found a company that manufactures an ISO 9001 generic that meets or exceeds Epson's quality and I save between 85%-90%! If you'd like their link, send me a note and I'll be more than happy to send it to you. Lastly, if you're looking for a high quality, versitile printer that's loaded with features for a more than fair price gives this one a try. I think you'll be more than happy.Read full review...

Great Photo Quality Printer~PictBridge~Built-In LCD

This is an excellent photo quality inkjet printer! Allows you to print photo quality images without your computer.

This printer uses 6 separate inks to provide vivid photo quality images. The printer includes a built-in LCD for previewing images prior to printing from either a memory card or using pictbridge direct from camera. Printer includes built-in media reader that supports all currently available memory media types. The printer also has the ability to directly print labels on to inkjet ready CD/DVD media.

This printer is an outstanding value for the price. I heartily recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a high quality inkjet printer at a reasonable price. As with similar printers from other manufacturers, the price of the ink will far out strip the initial cost of the printer. This printer is usually available with a rebate that can reduce the overall purchase price. Check the Epson website to see if there are any rebates available, and whether they can be used with an eBay purchase.
