Great Filter That Is A Required Part By Certain GM Turbocharged Engines

Little known fact concerning this filter; even by a surprising number of GM dealership service departments. Its higher rate silicone anti-reverse flow valve is critical for use in GM 1.4L turbocharged engines.
The extra heat produced by the turbocharger coupled with the higher oil pressure required for protection of that turbocharger conspire to render the rubber anti-reverse flow valve of the standard PF64 filter useless, quickly allowing unfiltered oil into the moving parts after it hardens and warps from the higher heat.

Unfortunately, many otherwise knowledgeable mechanics and shops will use the PF64 filter in place of this correct filter under the belief that they are equivalent parts. They are not.

Check your owners manual, if specs call for a UPF64R, do not use any other. Short term engine failure may result.

In addition to the high temp silicone anti-reverse flow valve, the canister is designed for the higher oil pressures required by turbochargers and the filter element density is much greater than the PF64 as well.

The UPF64R is a great heavy duty filter designed to exceed the demands put on it in modern turbocharged engines; there is no promoting this part here. It is required and more than meets the need it was designed to support.
