My targeted computer would not read mini disk. Used my old computer to transfer product software to regular disk. Then loaded software on targeted computer. Through trial and error and use of instructions managed to copy from camera to disk. For less than $10.00 the savings potential is significant.

How does this have so many good reviews?

Would rate zero stars if I could. I bought this based on all the positive reviews. I am fairly tech saavy, and had no problem with install or figuring out how to operate. The problem is, the device makes loud crackles and pop noises when connected to the USB port. Then there's the fact that when you try to do a VHS to DVD recording the audio goes WAAAAY out of synch with the video! $8. Was too good to be true and not worth the hassle and cost of shipping back.Read full review

Works as intended, good value.

I needed an easy and cost effective solution for connecting a single analog camera to a PC. This fit the bill nicely, and for cheap! The only caveat is that while the analog camera supports up to 1080p resolutions, this adapter only goes up to "DVD quality" of 720x480. After reading the reviews, I decided that, for the price, I would try this product. Basic computer knowledge is a must when using this. For instance, when downloading the software, the product key is on the disc. Nothing tells you this. I was attempting to copy DVDs from a DVD recorder/player that (I now know) were recorded in a mode that is unreadable by most DVD players. Regardless, the Easycap product should have worked the same as if converting from VHS. The recording process kept suddenly stopping, sometime 14 seconds into the project, sometimes 47 minutes. Very frustrating!! I then moved it from a PC to a brand new laptop. The laptop didn't identify the unit as being plugged into the USB. Back to the PC, which now also would identify it. Discovered that the problem was the cheap USB to USB connector provided in the package. Plugging the "device" directly into the USB resolved that problem. I have yet to attempt creating further DVDs because of the inordinate amount of time required to babysit the process. It's cheaper that hiring it done, but be prepared to persevere through problems!!Read full review

The product doesn't work as advertised. The manual is terrible, very hard to follow. You get what you pay for

At $7 I wasn't even particularly expecting this product to work. Surprisingly it was basically a plug and play installation. (Although the instructions were half gibberish.)
It installed no problem and I tested it with an N-64, NES and PS3. The video quality is near dismal for today's standards and while I had audio lag issues with a few file types, it gives you options for multiple different file types and changing it fixed the issue.
If your only objective was to turn old VHS recordings to DVD, this capture card would be a perfect and affordable option. If you're looking to record gaming, this could work but don't expect the quality to be anything presentable.Read full review

With a bit of mucking about, e.g. disabling the camera, updating the driver and the codec, adjusting the input volume via the advanced sound setting on the control panel and restarting the program several times. It works just fine.Read full review

If you have Windows 10, do not buy it or you will be disappointed...

This product will not work with windows 10, although it claims to in the description and on the disc that comes with it. I was able to get it to function on a different computer with Windows 7. If you have Windows 7 or earlier you will be fine. After doing a lot of searching and trying a lot of different drivers and reading reviews I have come to the conclusion that this device will NOT work with the latest version of Windows 10.Read full review

It Makes Things Possible

This device may make it possible to connect such things as a VCR, video camera, or DVD player to your computer and copy it to your hard drive, however I found it difficult to use and the results were not anywhere close to using a DVD recorder.
