Fun game

Earthworm Jim is a adventure game that's good to play and fun levels have easy mode, normal mode, hard mode. Better than earthworm Jim 2 and cool game to have if you're a gamer.

Play other games

The game is just not good. The price point is good, and the product worked, but compared to multiple other games, it’s not the best. Control response time is slow, and the music is really annoying.

This game packs a ton of personality

I first played this title at my school's daycare about 15 years ago on the Genesis and was immediately drawn to its style and gameplay. Now that I have been buying more SNES games online, I decided to see whether or not Earthworm Jim can reignite that spark and to see if it stood the tests of time. The results are a bit mixed.

First off, this game packs a ton of personality. The 90's art style (this covers the character designs and level designs) and the music give Earthworm Jim the identity that remains iconic to this day. There are plenty of bizarre enemies and characters you will encounter in this bizarre world, going from one area to the next for no particular reason, which I am perfectly content with that.

The gameplay is where things get interesting, for better or for worse. You take on the role of Jim as you shoot your gun and whip your worm body. You can shoot your gun in any direction and can whip your worm body to attack or to latch onto hooks. I do feel the hook swinging takes getting used to, as it is unclear whether or not it will actually latch on. Something I disliked was how fast and floaty everything felt. This wouldn't be an issue if Jim's sprite wasn't so large. This made me have to stop and brace myself for enemy attacks every few steps, when the incentive is to go fast since Jim runs through at such a high speed, which can lead to a lot of damage lost from unexpected enemy attacks. Another thing this game truly needed was a password system. I understood not many games during its release had a battery with which you could save your game, but it does get annoying when you lose all your lives and you cannot pick up where you left off.

This is still a fun and varied game with some fun shooting and platforming, but after growing up with later generations and even going back to more polished SNES titles, I can see where this game ages well and where it doesn't. It is still worth checking out to experience the obscure world that inhabits one of gaming's most iconic heroes and was a good outlet for returning to my seven year-old shoes.

Earthworm Jim

Earthworm Jim is a classic platform title from the Mid 90's. Filled with tons of zany action and intensely hard challenges, this is one of the games you just can't stop playing. While the game doesn't seem to take itself serious at some points, the visuals are absolutely amazing. While there isn't much of a difference between the SNES and Genesis version of the game, the SNES comes out as the better title for myself. The sound and music is much more crisp and clear in the SNES sound chip. Speaking of music, this is one of the titles composed by the amazing Tommy Tallarico. The challenge level is very high for Earthworm Jim, but I would definitely get it if you've missed this title! A Retro MUST!~Read full review...

Get this game, you won't regret it. It's fun and different a joy all around

Earthworm Jim for the SNES is just as good as the Genesis though there are some differences. This version is missing a level known as intestinal distress. Does that mean you shouldn't buy it? NO. The missing level does not effect anything that made this game great. In terms of quality their about the same. This is when the lines between the Super Nintendo and the Genesis were starting to blur. The graphics and animation are the same though the sound quality is a little better. The controls are the same only modified for the SNES controller scheme and this is done really well, once you figure them out you never mistake one button for another. The story is the same, Jim was just an average Annelid until by accident he obtains a near indestructible super suit intended for the tyrant Queen Slug-for-a-butt(though how she was supposed to fit in the thing is anyone's guess). Ii becomes obvious to Jim that he alone must make his way across the galaxy battling the Queen's subordinates to save the universe and her attractive sister Princes What's-Her-Name. Most of the game-play is a run and gun platform type game occasionally broken up between the various levels. Each level has something different about it that adds variety to the way this game is played, but none of them effect the controls that much except for the water level. Keep in mind that while this game is difficult it's difficult for all the right reasons. Never will the game flat out cheat you, or trick you into putting yourself in an undesirable state of affairs. There is always a way to make it through one section without tearing your hair out. One tip I can offer you is to take your time there is almost never a timer in the game which allows you be a bit methodical, so if it feels like you can explore a level do it, there's almost no reason no to as your likely to find hidden items that can help Jim on his quest. I got this game again not just for nostalgia but because it's genuinely fun.Read full review...

A Crazy but Great Platformer

Earthworm Jim is a strange platform/action game in which you control an earthworm in a space suit. Despite its humorous plotline, Earthworm Jim is a serious action title. The game can be quite difficult and, at times, frustrating.

Besides the difficulty level, everything in this game is great. The music is very good, and the sound effects are great, and sometimes funny. The images are very fluid and detailed, unlike some other Super Nintendo games. The gameplay is really what makes Earthworm Jim a great game though. You have two methods of attacking; a machine gun, or Jim can use…himself, as a whip (this is also used to swing from hooks). The game flows like any other kind of 2D action game; jump across platforms, shoot enemies, and beat the boss at the end. The enemies and bosses are well designed and are often very humorous. In between every level you have to race through space on Jim’s rocket, in a sort of bonus round (which is quite fun). This helps break up the platforming gameplay and keeps the game fresh.

In spite of the fact that Earthworm Jim may be too difficult for some, it is definitely one of the better platforming games for the Super Nintendo.

Pros:
- Great 2D graphics
- Hilarious characters
- Excellent gameplay

Cons:
- Can be very difficult at times
- No password/save feature

The graphics are pretty good but the game sucks.

Earthworm Jim: a 2D platformer released in 1994 for the SNES. This game is not at all forgiving, you get a few lives and a few continues and you're going to need them. The graphics are pretty good but the cartoonish sprites make the game look much easier than it really is. The enemies are relentless and difficult to hit, and if they grab you will take about 15% of your life away. The music is decent but repetitive and will get annoying quick. Voice acting matches the cartoonish graphics but hearing "Yippy!" and "AYOU!" every few seconds gets very old. There are checkpoints (labeled Continue) throughout the levels but often leave you in the path of an enemy ready to pounce on you as soon as you start, when you actually use a continue it sends you back to the beginning of the level. Personally don't like this game 5/10
