Good device, easy setup... nicely refurbished.

Have only used it once, so far, but it was easy to setup (Windows 10) and use and the printed disc looks very good.

discpainter

I like the discpainter but since they have discontinued making it there set up is difficult on newer windows. I also
found that it takes quite a bit of ink and runs slowly. So you can take a few hours to do multiple copies. But I
like the quality of the print out. You also have to be careful of which printable disks you use as not all of them work well.

Surprised How Much I Love This Printer!

I picked one of these up on eBay and, after I fixed it, I fell in love with it. The software works well with the old Windows XP operating system, and I've now installed it on two Windows 10 systems I have. Both the software and the disc printer work like a champ.

I have a video posted on Youtube that shows it printing a CD. It takes less than two minutes! That's on the "normal" print setting. I have printed one or two on the better setting, but I don't find it necessary for my media.

I've printed over 30 discs, and the cartridge is showing just over half-way used. I haven't used a full cartridge yet, so I don't really know how accurate that measure is.

The cartridges are still selling on websites and on eBay. I have not tried the Primera Bravo SE cartridges that another reviewer suggested, as the original Dymo cartridges are still available and are selling for less. That being said, the inner packaging of both looks as if they are made by the same manufacturer.

One thing you need to be aware of is that the radial print technology means that the printer spins the disc while printing on it. I have found media that doesn't work well with radial printing and results in swirled images on the disc. Media that I've found works well is the Verbatim discs. Memorex media seems to be good, too. I've printed CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays without any problem on Verbatim. But, if you print on media and get swirled images, it's probably not the printer. Try different media before blaming the printer.

I do recommend that you burn your media before you print on it. Printing costs ink and $$. Discs have gotten to be very cheap.

One last point, and it's important. You're probably not going to use a full cartridge in the course of a few weeks or a month. When you get a new cartridge, save the plastic bit that's used to cover the print head. DO NOT USE TAPE ON THE PRINT HEAD! Put it back on when you aren't going to use the printer for a while and put the cartridge in a plastic zip-loc bag. Store the cartridge standing up (not on its side). Do not put it in the freezer (freezing might actually dry the cartridge out, and we don't know what freezing does to inkjet cartridges).

For the final years of rotational media (before CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays disappear), pick one of these up and make your stuff look professional.

UPDATE: I recently tried the Primera Bravo SE cartridge (53332), and it is not the same as the Dymo cartridge (very close, even down to the pins). But, the two flanges on the top are in opposite directions, making it hard to put the cartridge lid down; and the printer reports that the cartridge is bad. If anyone has tried another print cartridge that works, please let me know. For the moment, there are plenty of Dymo cartridges popping up on eBay that I'm not concerned.

Cool Tool

OK I bought this to make my companies dvd's and cd's that we are sending to customers look better. I do like that it does just that, but the one thing that I have noticed is that it will NOT write on just any disk. You really need to buy disk's that are ink jet ready or printable. I tried this on a disk that was did not say that it is printable, and the ink just came off on my hand. Once you do this one time, you will buy the printable disks. Now the next thing is the software is not as easy to use as they make it look, but you can work with it, and with time it is easier to use, just like any software. Would I pay full price, no, but it is well worth buying one used on Ebay.
Thanks

Orphan Device - can't setup, Ink cartridges are no longer made for this,

This printer cannot be setup with 64 bit Windows as the setup program only works on a 32 bit system. Windows 64 bit can run 32 bit programs but The setup program refuses to install it on my 64 bit machine.
Dymo no longer supplies any tech support for this product and stopped making replacement ink cartridges for it. I read online that a certain Lexmark cartridge would work with a tab cut off but haven't confirmed that it does. I can't comment on the print quality as I have yet to print any disks.
I wish that I had not purchased it. I have offered it for sale for less than I paid but after 2 listings, I haven't received a single bid.

My opinion of the DYMO Disc Painter Printer

I say good because it was easy to set up, install and use. My only disappointment was that I expected more colorful printing on the disc. Next time I use it I will try a glossy or higher quality blank dvd.? If that works like printing on a glossy label or photo quality paper, then I would change my rating to excellent.Read full review...

Dymo Diskprinter

We use the printer to print a wedding photo of our customer's wedding. When it works properly the results are fantastic. We and our customers have been extremely happy. However, after the first few disks the printer started skipping lines, and duplicating text. Finally, the disks would not spin at all leaving a line of thick (and expensive) ink and the disk was ruined. After trashing about 10 disks, tech support gave me a download and it seems to be working again. As long as it continues to work properly then I could be convinced to raise my raiting to "Excellent".Read full review...

Dymo Disc Painter

I bought this item because I have gone through 2 different Epson printers to print CDs & DVDs. Both Epson printers were cumbersome to use and the ink cartridges were really expensive (even on ebay). Neither printer lasted very long. They both had decent print quality, when they worked correctly, but I had more problems with them than I had results so when my last Epson printer failed to load the CD print tray at all after just 4 uses, I looked for a non-Epson alternative and found the Dymo Disc Painter. The software that comes with it is very easy to use and provides more features than the Epson software does. It doesn't jam or streak like the Epson printers do and the replacement ink cartridges are less expensive. I highly recommend the Dymo Disc Painter. It works great and is a good alternative to the Epson printers.Read full review...

Design is unique, ink catridges appear to have a second generic source, and may be refillable

It was sold by Dymo. But the underlying technology appears to have been the Primera Bravo SE line of CD/DVD Duplicator robots. The Ink cartridges for the first Gen of the Primera used specially tagged LexMark Ink Cartridges and when LexMark exited the Inkjet business in 2012 those lost their primary supplier, eventually Primera had to end support for their 1st gen products when the LexMark cartridges ran out. In the meantime however the SE used a new cartridge the 53332 and 53335 in All Black and TriColor versions. (These appear to be Identical to the Dymo Cartridge) right down to the shape and embedded print head. There is even a small plastic rectangle tab that sticks up that is identical and can clearly be seen in photos.Read full review...

Good job for small runs. Dont count on the free software. Use your own,,,

This is the 2nd one I have owned, I used the first one so much I must have burned it out. The quality is great. I buy the blank CD or DVD's on eBay, it will print on matte or gloss blanks. For the money its the best out there, The other cd printers may have a hopper to be able to print 30 dvd's and walk away however the cost goes up so much if you are a short run printer like me this is the answer. The software it comes with is ok, as long as it imports jpegs i'm not worried about it.Read full review...
