Trilogy of Dune on Film

Starring Kyle McLaughlin, this first film version of DUNE combines political intrigue and science fiction set far in future, to reveal a quasi-religious central theme. The future is set to rotate around one planet in entire Universe that produces a unique spice which enables transportation, the Empire revolves around this planet, Arakis, DUNE.

There is competition among leading houses, one noble and other perverse, both set on becoming more powerful. To be most powerful, means ruling the planet DUNE, and conflict erupts. One house is defeated, other rises to power. Later, the defeated house builds an army and overthrows the first, to regain leadership. This is done through religious means, fulfilling futuristic 'prophecy.'

The players are extremely well cast against a futuristic backdrop. Prior to this release at least two film companies went bankrupt attempting this production. Many stars in supporting roles make this movie a classic for many years to come!Read full review...

FAR OUT SPACE MOVIE!

Dune could be summed up as David Lynch meets Star Wars. Or it could be considered the most psychedelic sci-fi movie. The colors are beautiful. The old style effects are mesmerizing. The ambient sounds are haunting! It also has great political implications, especially for the United States' current situation in the world (or any empire for that matter). Gotta love it when a classical hero archetype is developed into a mind blowing movie!

On the cons, I believe I've seen a director's cut that was an hour longer than this version. If you get the chance, watch the long version, this one ends sort of abruptly.Read full review...

Dune- As true to the novel as the title.

Being a huge fan of Frank Herbert and his Dune universe, this first version of his best selling book is right on the mark. The cinematography of this film is excellent and stays true to the story of Dune in both description and screenwriting. After reading the novel many times this version of the film easily brings to life the books and characters without the sense of displacement I found in the later versions of cinematic view of the story. this is quite simply a superb film that brings Frank Herbert's vision to full life on the screen.Read full review...

Excellent effort on filming Dune

Many, many years ago I had read much of these books. I loved them, seeing them as superior science fiction. I bought the DVD because I had heard it was exceptional. I also knew that the second part was being filmed to bring the filming of the books to a conclusion, and I wanted to be ready for that. Generally I prefer books to films because the mind creates the reality of books, while films are there to see. That was true with this, too. But this is still excellent film-making. I'd recommend the books, but that does not take anything away from this effort. If you're interested, be sure to buy the DVD.Read full review...

Great movie with super Blu-Ray upgrade.

I am not a science fiction reader yet the Dune series of books had me hooked after the first book. I know of no writer that has the imagination of Frank Herbert. Dune is a well written and directed movie with an all star cast. I bought it in Blu-Ray to see how good all the sweeping scenes and award winning special effects would look. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well the movie looks with the upgrade, it is really impressive. The DVD is well worth your time and money.Read full review...

Dune (1984)

This movie in my opinion is the best version of Frank Herbert's Dune on film. Even after 24 years there hasn't been another made that quite holds up to this one, the special effects may be outdated, but from the very begining this movie grabs your attention and keeps it throughout the film. This version was filmed in 1984 and had a wonderful cast and crew.
I bought this movie because I am a fan of the books and in my opinion this is the only Dune movie to do the book justice.
