Oldie but goodie, ready to flash and repurpose for 2020 onwards

This is an oldie but goodie. I bought one of these very recently, as soon as it got here I wired it up and wiped the stock firmware, this router is quite old these days, and has no security fixes from the decade or so past. Flashing it with dd-wrt makes this router infinitely better. Configured it to act as a 5-port switch, extended my network for my PS4 and wired PC without having to screw about with WiFi (disabled WiFi entirely)
One must be 100% positive the dir825 they're buying is of the "B1" revision, dd-wrt is not stable with rev A, nor rev C, rev B2 yields mixed results, B1 I've ran for years and can vouch for its stability under dd-wrt.

Not sure what others problems are

I have had zero problems with this router, we hooked it up and reset our cable modem. It picked up the internet and started working perfectly. The transfer speed on the wired 1gb connection is great, we are copying files extremely fast. The 2.4ghz band picks up a lot further than the 5ghz band but the range is pretty good. I have another N router that is 2.4ghz only that has much better reception at a longer distance but this router is acceptable. We get 4-5 bars everywhere in our home, which is a large home. The router is on the 3rd story and we still get 4 bars on the bottom level. The shareport (USB) on the router is funny with our printer and has to be unplugged and plugged in about once a day for it to work correctly. Using the shareport with our external hard-drive works perfectly with zero problems. We are having problems setting up the public network though, our friends are having issues connecting to it half the time. We dont want them on our windows 7 homegroup so we had to setup a public side but even though the manual says it should work, it only about half works. So if you wanting this router for the shareport and the public network SSID then I would look elsewhere, but if your wanting a good router that's dual band with good reception and 10/100/1000 then this router should work perfectly for you.Read full review...

D-Link 825 with a twist!!!

Well where do I start. Well first let me say I was pleased with the overall look of the iteam if that means anything ...but I'm a gadget guy soooo...Ok I get my new router and I cant wait to get started...I've heard so many good things about the power the DIR 825 brings to the table so I'm excited!! I get it in my mind that I need to follow the installation instructions to the letter to get this thing up and running without a glitch...you know how we all love little tech headaches (GLITCHES). So I'm breezing ahead and everything is fine I"m watching all of the windows pop up and asking a question or two and then its on to the next bit of instruction...I've got this beast of a router hooked up to my desk top and all I want is to see it done corretly. I'm exited!! Well after the hour and a half I spent with tech support becase my laptop couldnt see the router for some reason!!! What happend after that still baffles me...it desideied to just connect on its own...can someone help me with that one? I mean I spent all this time with the tech fron D-link one solution after another and nothing,,,calling me back twice and NOTHING!!! I got another number to call with a case number ???? But hey, I appreciated all of the help from the tech at D-link he tried. After all of that the performace has been great!! Super range and jitter free streaming. I'm only at 150 mbps, triple what I was getting with my now retired trusted Linskey....I've only had it one day...and when all is said I'm happy ...but can I get the speed up on this 825..I'd like to see 200 mbps...is it possible....I'm gonna end and give the router a good ++++ and I'll keep you's all updated.Read full review...

Not the performance that I exepcted....

I purchased this product a few weeks ago and had it hooked up in my home. The pro's: Good range. Dual band. Lots of features and advanced settings. B/G/N compatible. Con's: SLOW 5Gig. bandwidth speeds. I dont know what the problem is but I was having unusually slow bandwidth transfer while streaming HD video in the 5G band. I did some research and found that laptops that are draft N capable have some limitations that may keep them from streaming past 150 MBS. I was getting less than that from this router so I have decided to sell it off. I also found that there were others that have run into this problem. For some reason this is a good router, but the reviews that it has gotten have been less than stellar. In my research the WNDR 3700 is a better router. So..I bought a netgear wndr 3700 and it has lived up to the hype. If you want a great dual band router, I would recommend the 2009 CED award winner. Get a Netgear 3700. Thanks.Read full review...

Dual Band: useful if your neighbors have overpopulated the 2.4 Ghz band

I have worked with D-Link DIR-825 in research on wireless networking / wireless mesh but with rev B1. This one is rev A1.

Rev A1 which does not support third party operating systems like openwrt or dd-wrt. However, the router is great for home connectivity.

The reason I got this router is because it's dual band, meaning I can setup my network on either the 2.4 or the 5 Ghz band. Around my house there are multiple networks that have overpopulated the 2.4 Ghz band, so I bought this one and it works like wonders.

D Link DIR-825 rev. A1 Dual Band Gigabit Router

The D Link DIR-825 rev. A1 is a excellent 2.4ghz / 5ghz dual band router with 802.11B,G,and 300N 2.0 draft and 5 Gigabit Lan's. Some may like the B rev. but the test show the A1 rev. has better throughput and range,(*SEE Test's smallnetbuilder.com). The router is very easy to do the basic setup,it takes approx 10-15 minutes. I did not need any software or manual for the basic setup. The router has the web login info on the button sticker. There is quit abit of advanced software menu features that will take longer to go though but there are help doc's, info and link's right on the routers firmware. The Dual band 2.4 ghz and 5ghz can be both on and used at the same time. You can also turn off each seperately. Both band also have there own security setups. The Cons are the range is slightly less than my Netgear RangeMax Gigabit and the throughput on internet connections seem to be a little slower than the Netgear. I believe this to being a little slower is due to the security and firewall setup on the D Link. Also the range can be increased with better antenna's since the D link has two removable one's,the Netgear does not have removable one's there internal. Overall this is a Great router and is ready for the technology for year to come.

Hope this Helps and Thanks for reading

So am I happy I bought it? YES!!!! Do I wish it cost a little less? YES!!!!

It works, it's range sucks though. I was hoping a d-link router being as expensive as it is would have a wider range than a 5 year old Belkin wireless N router, being "extreme" N and all. It does have replaceable antennas so you can theoretically extend it's range but that is extra money on top of the money you already spent. On the other hand this thing has bandwidth! I can finally download on one computer and surf the web on another while playing an online game of call of duty on my PlayStation all with no loss of speed!Read full review...

GOOOOD ! Signal power is medium that's why 4/5

No problems for 2 weeks! the signal power is not the best one even with 2 antennas !!! It needs third one, I believe... other hand I have a big flat, so on the another end, 2 medium walls, the signal is 2-3 from 5 max. SO MANY settings, I guess if you want to made something special, you could do everything with this router. right now I don't know what to do with that settings) Just plug in, installed with CD (comes with the router) and that's it, no problems till now. Oh, it's becomes warm a little bit, but not too much.Read full review...

Cool DIR-825!!!

I wanted to buy a wireless router to be able use internet on my PC and laptop simultaneously. My ISP gives IPTV, and I was worried that not all wireless routers allow use it in internal network. I read a lot of different forums, which states that for D-LINK DIR-825 unofficial firmware, such as the Open-WRT and DD-WRT, allowing to keep similar functionality as for direct connection to your ISP. I buy a D-LINK DIR-825 and plug immediately, without changing the firmware. All works and I am very pleased! But when in Russia coming a long weekend on New Year, I'll buy a crate of vodka, will call a siberian bear with a balalaika, and with him we will experiment with different firmware for my wireless router!Read full review...

A great dual mode N band router for the price.

This is a decent router for the price you can get it for on Ebay. It's an economical way to venture into the dual channel arena without spending a great deal of money. If the 2.4Ghz band is all full with your neighbors' access points... you might want to give 5.8 Ghz a try. Chances are there will be much less if any interference in the higher band, since most people are still using 2.4 GHz. The setup is simple, and with an upgrade to the latest firmware, the router is very reliable and consistent. The only drawback is the range. At 2.4Ghz, it is outstanding. At 5.8 Ghz, it's only good for a few hundred feet max.Read full review...
