D'Addario strings are considered a better string than Martins. D'Addario strings have a solid "ring" or frequency to them, whereas other strings are "dead" fresh out of the package. Generally, most luthiers recommend D'Addario strings for acoustic guitars.Read full review...

these strings last quite a while and i don't see any need to buy the coated ones for twice the price. I gig about 3 x a week + play about another 20 hours and change them about every 3 or 4 weeks, and they still have life left in them even then.
