Cyberhome CH-DVD 300S DVD Player

Great little region free DVD player.

Positives:

its compact so will fit in any space required.

Multi region allows it play DVDs from anywhere. I used it to display an

important marilyn manson DVD, it worked perfectly.

It is uncomplicated and simple to use

It is CHEAP

Negatives:

It is slow to read a DVD. Often very slow, occasionally not slow at all.

There is no randomization feature on music play back.

The ports only allow for 2.1 sound, so no 5.1 surround sound from thsi
machine. Although I have tested on a surround system and it sounds great, but of course its not surround, just crisp clear sound.

Overall if you are prepared to live with the negatives this si a great little machine. I bought this for a gift to someone who wants to play import DVDs but has no idea about region differences. For them the simplicity and compactness of this machine is perfect. For me the price, typically around $30-40 is perfect. This price tag allows me to have money left to buy other things, and still have a nice DVD to give as a present.

As a final note reviews I read stated that the machine does not come region free, and that you have to do a quick web search for very simple instructions on how to make it region free. I did this, beleive me the instructions are simple. Just run a google or similiar search on the DVD, the instructions are simple to find. The actual DVD I bought did not need configuring to region free though.

So I am giving it 4 for overall ease of use and value. The slowness it has with some discs is its only real negative.

Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 DVD Player

The Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 and its clone the CH-DVD 320 are very good performers that were sold in large quantities in big box retail stores. They perform smoothly and are compact in size. The owner's manual is well-written and informative, but NOTE that the remote control is an absolute necessity; you cannot set up these players without the remote. If you don't have one, you may not be able to use it on your TV, or its functions may be limited; for instance, if by chance yours comes set up by its prior owner for progressive scan, but you can't use that feature, you'll have an unusable picture unless you can set up the unit properly with its remote.

These Cyberhome units can also be easily set up to play DVDs from any region in the world, making DVDs from Britain, Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand playable on your regular US television. There are two different methods for doing this, depending on when your particular unit was built; 2004 or so is when they seem to have changed over. These Cyberhomes convert from PAL to NTSC on the fly if properly set up. All this setup requires the remote, too.

The downside: there is no technical support from Cyberhome any more. In fact, it appears that there is no Cyberhome company any more.

Famous Region Free DVD Player

I bought one based on reviews and it is very good.

You find these DVD players for sale on EBAY often.

Good: Region Free (with well documented secret code [search net]). Plays ALL major formats VCD, DVD, MP3, JPEG, NTSC, PAL. Highly versatile, small footprint, works well, and CHEAP (probably why company is out of business - low price and high quality never go together).

Bad #1: Now old stock. I got old-stock NIB from EBAY - battery dead, terminals corroded. Fix was new battery and popping open the remote (pryed open via battery slot) and scrubbing down spring terminal. Works fine.
Bad #2: Reviews elsewhere on net suggest many factory lemons existed; you run the risk of getting a lemon, especially from remainders. My view is that you just swallow it and prepare to buy two in case the first one is a lemon. This good player is worth twice the cost or more. I was already prepared to buy a few and swallow the cost of any bad ones. Also on Ebay you may be buying used - so those have already been tested to see if it was a lemon or not.

Happy Shopping!

Low cost - does the job. Power supply prone to fail.

It plays DVDs as it's supposed to. I picked one up at a Goodwill a few years ago and after not using it for some time I found it didn't work. I opened it up and noting a 5v/12v power supply board checked the voltages and found the 5 volt power was running about 2.8 volts - very common for these. I found a low cost ( $5) power board on Ebay and got it working.

I bought this one because it was cheap, sold as non-working, and had the same symptoms. I got this one going using a power adapter used to run IDE drives as external drives. These are also available on Ebay for as low as ~$4. I plan to sell both at our Am Cancer Society Relay for Life garage sale.

If you buy one without the remote, allow $5 - $10 to get a remote on Ebay. Or use a universal remote if you have one around. Keep in mind this is a DVD player, not a Blu-ray player and not a recorder.

This "Lil Giant" has it all;Compact Quality & Features!

I'm a stay-at-home Mom that knows less about electronic gadgets than I know about cars. That said, this DVD player has been a dream to have in our home. We love the size (compact) for moving between 3 different kids rooms. We love the features; it easily plays every format available. We love the guality; never had a problem and it's been moved around like a kid's toy. For a family on a budget this has been one of the best, and least expensive, home electronics products we have ever purchased.Read full review...

Value for money

The selling point is not the price only. It is multiregional and I have DVDs with different region codes. I have another Cyberhome 300, exactly the same and I`m using it for more than two years. My dog played with the remote control, so I had to buy a new one. It was better buying a new set then buy the remote only... You don`t have to worry about service, guarantie, because it is so cheap. Of course, this is not the latest, all in one equipment, no fancy features, but definetly a good value for your money.Read full review...

A very good buy

The Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 is a very compact DVD/CD player with progressive scan and the ability to play a wide variety of discs. For under $40 new and about $20 used, this player is a very good choice if space limitations are an issue. It comes with a full-function remote control, S-video, composite video, and component video outputs. Early versions of this unit only supported one version of the RGB output signal but later ones allow switching between the two most common component video RGB formats.

I use this player on my sailboat where space in the nav station is at a premium. One caution: these players do have a history of suddenly dying (my first one did after about five years of use) but given the low price you can consider the player to be a "consumable." I've now purchased a couple of back-up units on eBay so I can slip in another one without modifying the cabinetry on the boat.

All in all a very good deal ... now when will Cyberhome make a compact Blu-ray player!?

Works perfectly

I had the exact same model, but it wore out. This was the perfect replacement and works just like the unit it replaced. I am very happy with its performance. It's a brand new unit.

GREAT PRODUCT! GREAT PRICE!! BEATS MANY OTHERS!!!

We give this little unit TWO THUMBS WAY UP!! We have had experience with several of these units, and have been thrilled at the price and quality. This little unit runs right along with our Home Theatre System. One of the best features is that is plays all DVD formats(R/+/-), which is very uncommon in many of the lesser expensive models. We have HIGHLY RECOMMENDED this unit to many, many individuals, and will continue to do so. This unit has replaced our previous $500.00 unit. It comes with an S-Video Jack, has an Emergency Hole on the bottom "just in case" the drive ever sticks, and its made by a Brand Name Manufacturer. Dont let the small price scare you, as you'll be very happy you bought this CyberHome CH-DVD300 Player!! It also makes a GREAT Gift!!! Thanks!!!Read full review...

Why the CH-300 rocks the house!!!!

I bought this DVD player as a birthday present. When I received it, I was dismayed to see that it was the "North American version 1.1". My disappoint turned to joy when I was able to unlock it and play an Australian DVD with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!!
The player is small, light and compact. It can be hooked up easily with it's A/V cables. An RF modulator can be used to hook up to a TV via a coaxial cable, but it creates a rather loud and annoying hum that comes and goes when ever you watch a movie. This has occurred with all my DVD players that I used so it may be able to be fixed with a better quality RF modulator.
Picture quality is good considering it's tiny size. I have also used my own personal CH-300 to look at pictures on a disc with no malfunctions. This particular '300 that I ordered also has effects for when you play CD's to make it sound like a concert hall, room and more.

The player seems to be durable and relatively inexpensive compared with other models. It can usually be made to play any region of DVD's or CD's with a few clicks of the remote. Once you've done this and saved it, it need not be unlocked again. The remote is a little small and the buttons don't light up or glow in the dark but the batteries can easily be found at Radio Shack.
In summary, the CH-300 is a great multiple-region DVD player at an unbeatable price. Get when while you can find them and while they are still available at low prices.
