This SSD uses memory chips made by Micron, one of the oldest and largest chip makers. It has a DRAM buffer and an SLC write buffer, 2 important features for high performance and longevity. It has a metal chassis for heat dissipation. The specs on this drive are good, both read and write speeds are acceptably high. Enjoy the speed difference over an old platter HD

Installed in a Mac Pro tower, 2010. Hey, no big mystery here. They work until they don't. As far as brand difference, I can see none that is significant. I'd lean to the company with the best QC in manufacturing and customer service. Performance difference between brands for most people is hardly an issue. The MX500 series SSDs use 3D NAND, which makes them much more durable than cheaper planar NAND without sacrifing speed. With as fast reads and writes as any premium SATAIII SSDs on the market, the $240 I paid for this 1TB device was terrific. I am using it in a Dell XPS 8920 for all my virtual machine files and my load times are only a few seconds and operations are swift. I recommend Crucial's MX500 line very highly.Read full review

The Best 2.5" SSD you'll find in Reliable performance that's not a Samsung Evo or Pro (These are the TOP 3 SATAIIIs IMO). My MX500s came with a spacer to substitute some HDDs that are a tad thicker as well. This MX500 1TB has never been my bottleneck in performance, (I exclusively use Windows 7 ULT 64Bit Software), and has more performance than you'll need, refer to any Bench Test with this SSD for Specific info.

I have 5 laptops each using this MX500, performance has not been degraded over the last 6 years, still retaining it's Original Snappy Performance in 2021. Overall a Very Good SSD, coming in #3 in Overall performance, #1 in Cost for that performance.Read full review

One terabyte SSD, love it

I love Crucial for memory. It was one of the first flash drives that I ever had and it took a lot of abuse before a co-worker broke it. I never had the memory itself ever give me a problem. When I saw this drive (1 TB, too) on sale for over half off, it wasn't much of a decision.
