Great for the price!

I got this for my son's room because it is inexpensive and compact. So far, it has worked very well for him. It has had no problem playing any of the discs we have put in it. The unit is very easy to setup and use.

Whatever you do, do not lose the remote! Otherwise you will not be able to perform many of the functions of the DVD player.

I was hoping that this DVD player could be vertically mounted, but it cannot. The disc tray does not have the grooves to hold the disc in place when it is mounted vertically.Read full review...

Low Cost DVD

Purchased because of low cost and PAL Format capability. Works fine with our made in Asia DVDs becuse of the PAL Format feature.

Excelent inexpensive DVD player

While I appreciate good audio and video I am not per se an electronics buff. I require whatever product buy to perform as advertised and operate for a reasonable period of time.
This is my 2nd Coby DVD-224 player and I purchased it because the first one met my basic requirements. For reasons unknown the remote on my first one went missing (probably ran away with the remote for an unused TV) and frankly I was able to buy an entire new unit on ebay for slightly more than the cost of a new remote. This in fact ended up being much less than I paid for the original DVD.
While I appreciate good audio and video I am not per se an electronics buff. I purchase based un a specific need and require the product to perform as advertised and last for a reasonable period of time.
I purchased my second Coby-224 because,in short, the Coby-224 does everything I require of a DVD at a low cost. The picture is outstandingly good, the various features all do what they are supposed to do, and the audio is as good as my equipment can reproduce. Overall, the Coby-224 has capabilities which I have as yet not discovered or at least, not used.
My singular complaint is more with me than the unit: while it is easy to use, I haven't used it often enough to have automatic response programed into me and thus it seems a trifle slow at times while I look up which button to push.

A great compact unit with lots of hookups and great video and audio.

A really nice DVD player. I was late in reviewing the product because I first hooked it up to a TV that had no video. Turned out that the TV was bad. This little unit works great! Coby DVD-224 DVD Player You get what you pay for.

Really cheap item here. You truly get what you pay for. It's just crap.
It's fine for a $5.00 player if you need one, but don't expect much.
The player itself does play...but it's flimsy and poorly constructed and just feels cheap.
It has trouble playing burned DVD's but so far is ok with store bought DVD's haven't tried any other format yet, but no real need for what I wanted this player for.
The remote is a flimsy membrane of soon-to-tear plastic. The button configuration is lame and the FF/RWD is hard to control.
Probably not going to last long, but it'll be fine for taking with me while Motel hopping on business trips. It is light and small, but that's probably because there's just nothing of quality in there.
It works, but like I say, you get what you pay for. Don't expect much and you'll be fine.Read full review...

Great Cheap DVD Player

There's not much to this review because the DVD player is quite simple, though perfectly effective.

This was $50 well spent. The DVD player hooked up to my surround sound without a problem. I cannot tell a difference in performance (both audio and video) between this $50 player and the $250 Panasonic in my living room.

There aren't as many options as a more expensive brands may have, but there's nothing that I've missed - I just noticed that watching DVD's on this thing isn't complicated. You can play, pause, eject, fast forward and rewind just like any other DVD player. At the price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I just had another tv.

One final word. The cheap price is in the simplicity of the player, not in the quality. It has given me no trouble and thus far has been as sturdy as any other DVD player that I've used.

Update: It lasted just over a year before it died. It wasn't abused, it just seems to be dead.Read full review...

Overall a great dvd player

I am overall very pleased with this purchase.

It plays the dvds very well and even plays a cd that will not play in my car cause of a minor scratch.

The only thing I really dislike about it is that you always have to turn off the subtitles and you have to push the open/close button about 5 times before it really opens.

Overall i give it a 4/5 because it is a great dvd player that could be only a little bit better.Read full review...

Good choice for what I needed as gift

This was purchased as a gift for a mentally challenged adult. He requires assistance to start a movie as he cannot read. Although with some practice he will be able to memorize the main buttons he will need to use. I love the size since he will soon be going into a care program where he will have limited space for his possessions. The compact size will be perfect for that.Read full review...
