Tech Knowledge May Be Needed

Setup may be difficult for a novice. Took numerous calls to ATT until reaching a bright young man. He sent me a link to setting up my router that is not in the User manual. My default router settings (MG-7540) were stopping the network connect. Had to log into my router and set MTU size to 1492 and then set Block Fragmented Packets to Disabled. Works perfectly now - 5 bars.

All router settings below - Very Techie
Please be advised that the router manufacture or the ISP provider will not provide support for AT&T MicroCell, but they can assist with configuring the following router settings:
-DHCP is on
-Data is not restricted from passing through ports 4500 and 500 (AKA Port Blocking).
-MTU size is set to 1492
-MAC address filtering is either turned off or allowing the MAC address of the AT&T MicroCell IPSec Pass-Through is Enabled
-Block Fragmented Packets is Disabled
-If using multiple routers, the Microcell must be connected to the first router connected to the broadband modem
-If the MicroCell is connected to a router that is connected to a modem and both the router and the modem have NAT (Network Address Translation) enabled, disable NAT either in the router or the modem.
-Ensure the modem / router is using the latest software (firmware). Please see the manufacturer's documentation.
-TCP/UDP Ports
Note: All ports listed need to be configured for inbound and outbound connections.
-123/UDP: NTP timing (NTP traffic).
-443/TCP: Https over TLS/SSL for provisioning and management traffic.
-4500/UDP: IPSec NAT Traversal (for all signaling, data, voice traffic).
-500/UDP: IPSec Phase 1 prior to NAT detection (after NAT detection, 4500/UDP is used).
-4500/UDP: After NAT detection, 4500/UDP is used

Like the Phone Company, When it Works, it is Nice to Have

The Microcell Tower does what it is supposed to, when it works. That caveat is the only reason I can't give it a perfect score. I have had 4 of them in 2 years. They work for a little while, and then die. After 6-8 months, my experience is that you will see the indicator lights show everything is OK, but your phones will no longer see it. And now, AT&T no longer sells directly or supports this product. You have to get them second-hand, and pray that it is de-registered, or you will not be able to use it. Mine has to be rebooted every day, and I will get about an hour of use before it dies again. Read full review...

Great reception

I live in the boon docks so this is a necessary item at my house. I have 1 at the front of the house and this one that was just purchased is at the back of the house. I got the 2nd one because if I attempted to make a call at the back of the house the calls kept being dropped due to the insulation in my house. It is well worth the money!Read full review...

From 1 Bar to Full Signal inside home when wifi calling failed.

I recently switched from Verizon to AT&T. My home gets terrible coverage with both providers despite living in a residential area 20 mins from Philadelphia. Just a bad zone. Verizon gave me 1-2 bars max. AT&T is worse. 1 bar max and only able to max/receive calls from certain rooms. It was a mess. I tried WiFi calling, but even with the iPhone XR connected via WiFi calling and a review of settings with my Router Manufacturer I still had poor connectivity.

Enter the AT&T Microcell. WOW. I realize these are not sold anymore, but what a difference it made. I now have FULL signal in every room (including basement office) and no issues making calls. It has been a huge blessing.

Difficult to get started, but once activated, it works great!

After activation, the product works properly in my basement office, but it took a week to get the device activated. I had to keep moving it around my office to various locations (all near a window), connecting it to different Ethernet ports, plugging it into different outlets, and each time waiting another 24 hours to see if it got a GPS signal. Activation is initiated through the AT&T Microcell website. That part is fairly straight-forward, but neither I nor AT&T nor my network people could explain why the device's GPS connection took so long to get established.

If you are not in a basement, you probably won't encounter the same problem.

AT&T Booster!

I never had more than one bar or less signal strength in my home. Received the booster and followed the quick start installation manual. Easy setup and you need to logon to your AT&T account to finish installation. Have the boosters serial number handy and your AT&T account phone number. After set amount of time booster is updated and accepted and ready to use. My cell phone went from 1 to 5 bars of signal strength all throughout my home! Booster also has a GPS function for 911 connection.Read full review...

from 1 to 4 bars the ATT microcell did the job

The unit was easy to install and gave me 4 bars on my phone. Normally I had barely a bar in my home office so I was always going up stairs to gain one more bar. I now have 4 bars thru out the house. It is really nice to have good phone coverage.Read full review...

Full bars!!

Some parts of my house and property were total dead spots while the other parts I had to keep walking around in circles to find the signal however after installing the AT&T MicroCell which was a breeze I have full bars in every part of my house and even outside in my yard where there were no signals before.. well worth it !!Read full review...

Great device that's easy to setup

Easy to setup. Just make sure you have the Microcell by a window. I can't believe AT&T is moving away from the Microcells. These work so much better than the built in Wi-Fi calling on their new modems.Read full review...
