No brainer

Thanks to greenteksolutions I was finally able to put my refurbished WLC2106 to use! Thanks to the two POE ports on the controller these Cisco AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9's were perfect to blanket my house in sweet, sweet wireless. They were packaged nicely with plenty of protection, and were in excellent condition despite the used description. At under 20 bucks - These were a steal! Thank you for providing fast shipping, quality packaging, and great products for us looking to geek out on a budget. I will definitely be checking out your items in the future!Read full review

Be prepared for some work

Great unit for the price, if this is for home use you will probably also have to invest in a power brick for it. Comes with no IOS so one must be loaded on there, need a Cisco service contract to download the IOS. Unless you have the wireless network controller this device must be converted from lightweight to automated. This is by no means plug and play, be prepared to do some work to get this up and running. When all was said and done it is an amazing wireless router with amazing flexibility/features/reliability, would purchase it again.Read full review

Managed mode

The device was flashed with firmware for managed mode and sent with it. I am not sure if anyone without experience would be able to download Standalone Mode Cisco firmware, use console cable and console cli to reflash it with Standalone firmware, and perform initial configuration. As I'm experienced network and Linux Engineer, I had no issues with it, but as the device is useless in Managed Mode to people who does not have Management Controller, this piece of information should be mentioned in the Note at least.

Superb price and device otherwise.

You will have to do some work but it is worth it.

These were originally made with enterprise environments in mind (hospitals, office buildings, schools, etc.) and because of this, the 'regular' people off of the street won't have the controller hardware that would have been used.

But do not fret! If you don't mind some reading and a little bit of tinkering, you can get one of these set up as a standalone wireless point or a repeater in a matter of like 20 minutes. Just google "cisco 1142 lightweight to autonomous" and several pages will pop up with instructions on how to get these flashed correctly.

Keep in mind, you will need to also purchase a USB serial to RJ45 'console' cable in order to perform this process. It's not very hard and after you are done, you have a nice wireless AP that will do a really good job for a 300mbps (802.11n) product.

Inexpensive and high quality

This is an enterprise grade access point for less than the cost of a new "consumer-grade" (read: junk) unit bought new. If you have the know how to work with IOS then this is a great option for an access point that just works. The "LAP" units are normally run in "lightweight" mode with a controller, but they can be loaded with an "autonomous" image relatively easily which would be more typical in a residential/small commercial environment.Read full review

Good Range, Great Look, Lot's of mounting options, & Business class!

For the price of these things used - you can't beat them! Most units come in LWAP mode and would normally require a Cisco wireless control unit, but these can be converted to Autonomous mode with a little knowhow and a Cisco Console cable. The web interface can be a bit of a pain to work with until you figure out where everything is and which order you need to set the parameters. However, after the initial setup, these units are rock solid performers and require no intervention or interaction whatsoever! These are only N units (sorry no AC) but, they do have both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ modes simultaneously. Streaming video, steam, and general internet use work perfectly and simultaneously.Read full review

Nice AP

Great POE access point with good speed and excellent signal and reliability. I have a cinder block house and one of these centrally located takes care of an entire floor.

Product was good??

The product was good but missing mount. took me a while to figure out it even needed on. I originally thought it was designed to just sit on a table or shelf. After some research i found a mount. The product worked as good as new, and delivery was fast. I am new to wireless so knowing it needed a mount would have been a good. All in all i'm happy. Read full review
