NOT A DIRECT FIT FOR 2004 PONTIAC VIBE

This was purchased for a 2004 Pontiac Vibe with an original exhaust system. I had 3 problems with this system that was supposed to be a direct fit. 1) I was able to install the front half of the unit without any issues but there was an issue went mating the rear section onto my original flange that continues on to the muffler section. First of all, the screw holes from the old rear flange to the new one did not align. As you can see in the pictures I provided, the point of measurements of the original flange were 3-3/16 inches. The new one measured 3-11/16 inches. 2) The outside diameter of the new pipe is 2 inches and the old pipe measures 1-7/8 inches not allowing the new gasket to fit correctly. 3) The openings on the sleeve and the end of the resonator is to big allowing to much space and not allowing the mufflers clamps to squeeze the pipes to seal and hold them in place. I applied a lot of torque on the bolts and could not get the pipe to mesh onto the other pipe. This result happens with the coupler piece that connects the rear half of the system as well.
In order to complete the system, I had to take the car to a muffler shop to do modifications to the system in order to complete it. They modified the rear flange screw holes and the gasket to allow it to mate to the original rear muffler section. They also welded the section of the pipe where the muffler clamps were supposed to be used in order to keep it together and from leaking exhaust. As you can see in the photo for this section, the weld is very large. I have included pictures of the weld job that was done between the resonator and the catalytic converter. According to the description, this swap should have been a fit without modifications. The idea was for me to be able to do this at home and avoid having to go to a muffler shop to complete the swap. This was an additional cost that was not expected and raised the amount up past what I wanted to spend. The reason why I specifically purchased this unit was to do a DYI at a minimal cost. Not a good value if you have to take it to a muffler shop to make it work.Read full review...
