Design improvement
I needed to replace my original 'bed buddy', which I loved, because after years of dependable service, the fabric was finally wearing thin and allowing for leakage of the grains. I was reluctant to make the purchase at first, because I could see that the new ones looked a bit different than mine; and you never know what goes into such a change--different manufacturing company than in the past, cheaper design, etc. But considering the price, I went ahead and bought it, and I'm very glad I did. The basic design is the same, except that the internal grains are held in place better by added stitching down the middle of the 'tube'. Before, the grains could move around much more easily, which could be undesirable--for example, if you wanted heat on your neck in a sitting position. If the grains migrated away from the affected area, so did the heat. You could regularly move them back into position manually, of course; but with the new design, you don't have to. It's a very simple change, but it makes a significant difference in prohibiting easy migration of the internal grains. If there is a downside, this new one doesn't seem to hold heat as long as the old one did. But because of the stitching creating two much smaller tubes, and being a bit shorter in length than the original, it stands to reason that there just aren't as many grains in the new ones. ICE THERAPY IS LACKING
I was really looking forward to getting this item after my hip replacement but was disappointed in the functionality of the wrap with regard to its cold use. I kept it in the freezer overnight and when I went to use it, it was at best, somewhat cold, but not like an ice pack at all. It loses its cooling ability within about 20-30 minutes. I thought it would be much colder.
The heat therapy aspect works nicely as it is described, but again, I needed mostly the ice pack side of the item, which really let me down.

They redesigned this VS older version. They change the handle material to a smaller type of nylon rope, Less filling so it doesn't stay hot as long, plus changed the tube cloth material. Materials seem to be a down grade VS the older version. This seems to be the trend now a days. Extremely fast relief
This sure beats the old fashion hot water bottle. Stick the Bed Buddy in the microwave for 75-80 seconds and it is ready to use. It provides immediate relief and stays warm for a long time. If it cools off and more time is needed all that is required is putting it back in the microwave for a minute. Bed Buddy
I've been buying these for years. About the only place you can find them now is "Walgreens", so I was really happy to find them on eBay at a good price. All is great with the sellers end of things, but I don't know what happened to the product over the years. The bed buddy just doesn't stay warm for very long. You used to heat them for up to 3 minutes and they would stay nice and warm for a good hour or better. Now you only can heat them for 2 minutes and they cool off within 10-30 minutes. If you try to hear for anything longer than the recommended 2 minutes, you're going to burn it and really stink up the house. They must be using a different material; Maybe they got sued over the old ones for getting so hot. I loved them that way though. They are a great help if you have Fibromyalgia or the big 'R'. I buy a new one every 3 months or so. They've got me hooked. Watch the stupid politicians start calling them "opiods" in another year or so and ban them!Read full review...

The Bed Buddy is awesome!! It is a moist heat like the old hydroculator heat that chiropractors use to use. Wonderful for any aches and pains. Stays warm for about 20 minutes. Great for migraines, fibromyalgia pain, sinus headaches, tension headaches, stiff neck, sciatica nerve pain, muscle strain,etc., Also can be used as a cold pack by putting in the freezer. Best of the microwave heating pads
The BED BUDDY is the best of the microwave heating/freezer cooling pads. I had one that I purchased in 1995 and just recently had to toss. They last forever, and they hold the heat and cold a LONG time. They are easy to use with the rope handles, and the particles inside stay in place so they can directly hit the sore, or problem spots. Great product that should be used wisely
I love these "Bed Buddies" for heating in microwave for sore neck/knees, etc. But,don't put directly on skin; place over sweater or robe or something relatively thick to protect your delicate skin. If it is too too hot on your wrist (just like baby formula), don't put it anywhere on your body until it cools down.
If you do overheat, it will put off a burned hair smell which is not possible to get rid of, so I recommend heating in 30 second intervals. Usually one or two is enough for soothing warmth. Also, don't fall asleep with it on or put on children or animals as they may not react to the product being too warm as an adult person would.

This was advertised and pictured as the Original Bed Buddy. Having owned and purchased several "Originals" I was very excited that I would be getting what I'd had. What I got in the mail was not what I was expecting. The Bed Buddy I received has a seam down the center of it. I was very disappointed until I warmed it up and started using it.
