Pretty in Pink . . .

The Canon SD1200 IS Digital ELPH 10.0 Megapixel camera was purchased as a gift for my wife. She had been using a very basic point and shoot digital camera. This camera was purchased as a step up from that type. While the Canon camera can be operated in an automatic mode the operator can choose from the many different features available in a type of manual configuration. The combined optical / digital zoom that can be used together to give a factor of 12 ( 3 x 4 ) or independently of each other was something the wife found very pleasing. The fact that it can be purchased in pink also made it an excellent Valentines Day present.Read full review...

Nice photo, tricky closeup adjustment, a/v out fragile

I needed a camera that could take good close-up photos with detail and thought this one would work for me. The focus adjustment for close ups is a bit tricky and the booklet didn't give me much information, as a matter in fact it was in spanish of which it is a good thing I can read. I also download photos and the a/v out is fragile that I think it's going to break off. I do love the camera though and the photos are so clear and the image stabilizer is great. It's so small and compact and easy to carry. I'm not sorry I bought it.Read full review...

Perfect pixels in most cases

The camera is lightweight and easy to work, even without instructions. The automatic setting gives realistic photos with great lighting. Disabling the flash usually gives better, more realistic photos, except in more than light darkness. In almost all lighting, this is the best automatic camera I've owned so far.

The only cons at this point are the fact that it doesn't have built in GPS locating (which is only in high end cameras as far as I know--which costs lots more) and that I can't take photos in more than moderate darkness without white flakes showing up in the photo.

Great Camera, great price

Good reliable 10 M-pixel easy to used camera with nice features. I did buy this camera as a gift for a freind, since I already have a canon ( diferent model ) I recomended. I wish the screen would be 3" standard in all canon cameras other than that this camera take very good pictures for a point & shoot cameraRead full review...

Great little Canon PowerShot SD1200

This camera I think is much better than the newer 1300 and 1400 model as the auto focus to me works alot better. Its excellent for someone just wanting a small instant camera that takes great pics but with limited flash.
As with small, the controls are harder for a man to use with bigger fingers and the flash on any of these smaller camera's limits you to a small area. Overall its a great unit for the money.

Just what I wanted

My Canon Powershot of 5 years finally was broken. I loved my Canon and I bought it based on Consumer Reports. I checked Consumer Reports and found a best buy for the predecessor of the SD1200 and decided to take a chance on purchasing the SD1200 which did not have a review yet. I'm glad I did. A much improvement from my prior powershot. Small, light, and sleek. Wow! I didn't realize the advances. The prices for the battery and cards are reasonable with the new model (despite my having to start over with new cards). The things I love are the faster shooting, ability to zoom on movie, the nice big screen, and the great pictures. The pictures are much clearer with this new upgrade. Also, with the bigger screen, my mother with limited vision can now see the pictures. I'm glad I bought the SD1200 and I recommend it for the amateur photographer who wants an easy to use camera which does all the thinking for you.Read full review...

NIce Little Camera

I was shopping for a simple point & shoot digital camera. Initially, I was going to but the Nikon Coolpix but after reading customer reviews I did more research and found the Canon SD 1200 IS, to be more favorably rated by users. Also, after speaking to my son's friend who is in the photography business, she told me for point & shoot camera's, you can't beat Canon. Nikon however, excells at the more sophisticated levels.

So far, I love the camera. It's everything I was looking for. It's easy to use and picture quality is outstanding. It even has a video feature with sound. I'd recommend it!

Best value, with great features

It's no wonder why this digital camera is the top-selling ultra-compact this season. It has all the great features and design of previous ELPH series, including digital macro, a decent optical zoom, landscape mode (for wide shots), video capabilities, plus auto and manual ISO settings and face-detection. Added since the SD750 is also image stabilization, improved "shutter" speed, and auto scene detection (the SD750 had manual selections for "kids and pets", "beach", etc...the SD1200 now has intelligent software which detects and sets these shooting modes for you).

This is a fantastic camera at an incredible value. It's wonderful for point-and-shoot, casual photography, but also has a wide selection of manual settings and modes for more specialized use as well.

Never owned a digital camera but this one is great

I have never owned a digital camera before, but after reading reviews of many different brands and models, I chose this one and am not sorry. One important feature which was not mentioned in the reviews that I read, is that this camera has a view finder in addition to the LCD display. As an older person, sometimes it is difficult for me to use the LCD in bright sunlight. The view finder allows me to see what I am about to photograph very easily in the sun. This camera has a point and shoot (automatic) feature which is also good for a novice like myself. I am very happy with the photos produced and it is very easy to transfer them from the camera to the computer. I have taken shots of my grandchildren in motion and gotten good results. The Canon PowerShot SD1200 is small, light, easy to use and produces good quality photographs, both indoors and outside. I think I made a good choice.Read full review...

Canon PowerShot SD1200 10.0 Megapixel Camera

I purchased this camera for it's size, features, cost and operational simplicity. I wanted a camera that I could easily fit into my pocket that was capable of rendering good quality photographs. The Canon PowerShot SD1200 does just that. I haven't used it extensively at this point but what pictures I have taken have been very good. The camera is fully automatic so basically point and shoot for good results. This model also features a View Finder which most sub compact cameras do not have. This feature is nice when the LCD screen is bathed in bright sunlight and is hard to view.

The software package that comes with the camera is a simple and straight forward photo collection program to include a minimal photo editing program. It works well and again, is simple.

I would purchase the Canon PowerShot SD1200 10.0 Megapixel Camera again for nothing more than the above mentioned features and ease of use.
