Great with a major limitation for users in the US

Everything about this printer is spectacular with one exception. The previous generation had the ability to change the country or origin settings to permit CD/DVD printing. This model has disabled that change. As such, the printer, while having the mechanical and software possibility to print on to discs (which I had hopes of doing again like my previous Pro9000 Mark II), is crippled. What ever the legal issues constraining Canon from offering this feature in America, selling a printer in this market with less than complete features (features that are offered elsewhere) is deceptive. I doubt I will buy another Canon pro model again that isn't fully functional.Read full review...

Slow and steady

The machine does a fairly decent job but is exceedingly slow. Facial colors are a little flat. I does give vibrant color otherwise and the images are very sharp and clear on all papers I've tried (matte, gloss semi gloss, pro luster).Read full review...

Replacement for HP 9650

My large format HP printer started doing weird things after many years of use. The HP had provided a lot of great work, but HP customer service is ... well, there isn't any. I have a Canon scanner which is outstanding so decided to try the Canon printer. The only reason I graded it good instead of excellent is that is has a huge footprint and takes up a lot of real estate. It prints fast and with excellent quality. Paper handling is okay though there are a lot of things to flip "up & down & here & there" to carry it out.

I did all my b&w document printing with the HP along with photo work, but I wouldn't recommend that with the Canon, partly because small b&w laser printers are so cheap now and cost per page is much less, but also I just don't like the way the Canon handles the paper for that kind of use.

Totally worth to have it

I'd give the "Excellent" rating if it wasn't because of the high running costs (inks) However if you are not in the commercial production this printer will do it just fine! Has a little too big footprint and large size but for those studio proofs and those small projects the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MKII has a high quality output, easy to use and setup, reliable and your prints will truly astonish your clients.
So far I've printed 12 11x14 and still have ink (original "demo" cartridges) on metallic paper!!! They look (even better) than the one from my local lab... And of course: 10x better than Costco, or those 1 hour labs.

Quality Professional Photo Printer

Following reading multiple reviews for the Pixma 9000 and comparing with other like kind printers, I pulled the trigger on this one. Using good quality photo papers the quality is just as good as a professional lab. The printer is just so-so when using regular stock paper, 22Lb. 98 bright. My HP All-in-one does a better job on regular paper.

Ink consumption is OK ,with the printer taking 8 separate cartridges. Expect to pay just over $100.00 for a full compliment of cartridges. However, Canon does offer some competitive deals on ink and photo paper combinations. Don't skimp on the quality of paper as the paper makes a big difference in the output print quality.

The software driver is pretty intuitive and allows you to customize and save settings by paper size and printing attributes. This feature is a real time saver. Plus the printing attribute options are plentiful and make a real difference in the quality of output and print.

Overall, I'm pleased with this printer and have already reproduced a number of prints that were previously output on a lesser grade photo printer. Set up was easy with very clear instructions provided by Canon. Speed of output is about what one would expect for this level of quality printer, not too slow, not blazing fast, but then again, if you want quality output and the ink laid down correctly on the media, press print and turn to another task.

And last, be sure to allow the ink on your media to cure for up to 24 hours before matting and mounting. This is an important tip! Happy printing.

Dominatingly apparent

I have several other canon printers, copiers, and other products and I am surprised at the extremely large footprint of this printer. I find the size causes me unnecessary stress as I want to make sure it is closed completely when not printing just so it won't dominate my thoughts as I pass it. I have added a beautiful cloth to focus on and believe I have placed it in the most beneficial space for all.

Printing is slow compared to my Canon i9900 and Pixma MP530. This one is a slight combination of the two of these. I chose it because of the CD tray attachment capability. I wanted wireless. It works fine through my network, and it's only 1 wire. (One day that will be a great punchline!)

If the size was not so dominating, it would be an excellent printer. But when size becomes an issue, stress and worry that were not previously there have now entered your life and the life of everyone you touch with the use of this printer. Maybe I need a MUCH larger home for this item to fit comfortably, but I do not desire a home the size it would take for this printer to fit comfortably into.

This printer challenges me to find a clever way to make an office machine beautiful to look at. Fortunately, it's very existence is beautiful to me. I wish I could be reborn 50 years from now just to see the technology from a child's eyes and let my imagination start from there. Wow!

Most reviews give sterile information about noise level, size, energy consumption, and so on. I want to let you know how the energy in your home changes as your thoughts change. This is a good, well-built, large printer that I would recommend, but be aware of the placement. As with everything in your home, make sure it make you smile when you see it.

good job of printing, cost of ink better than others

This printer does a nice job of printing at a relatively low cost compared to the HP I had before, a hp 220C which was very expensive to print with, but did a nice job of printing. I have had a little problem with paper feeding especially on larger sheets of paper in the rear paper feed especially if the paper is a little heavy, of course I guess in that case I should be using the front paper feed, the front paper feed only takes one sheet at a time so is inconvenient if you have a large number of posters to do. The Front paper feed does take very heavy paper as it goes straight though the machine. The manual could be better, as with most all are inadequate in my opinion, printer was purchased new on ebay for 220.00 which makes it good printer for the money, dont think I would have spent the 500.00 that most of the retailers want. I have two hp's (MFP) which cost me 750. and 500., they are not wide format but they are semi commercial as is the pro 9000. This printer does a nicer job of printing photos than they do, I do not use it for every day general printing but needed it for advertisement posters and large photos, I have used this printer on several types of paper and have been very satisfied with all the paper I have used, usually print on the standard setting, have not found much use for the photo setting as coverage is adequate to very good. I consider myself an ameture photographer with a fairly good dslr camera which is why I was interested in the printer, would buy agian at this time but only have printed about a 100 photos and posters, hopefully my mind does not change over timeRead full review...

A great printer for photographs but not for general use

I bought the Canon Pro9000MkII to make photographic color prints and for that it is excellent--as the reviews I read generally indicated. The printer makes very high quality photographic prints with accurate colors and character (it even picked up the metallics). I have used it for both 8 1/2 x 11 and 4 x 6 prints, which all came out fine. The printer would not be suitable for someone who wants to print photos on regular paper, which I did accidentally once (they come out terrible!) Installation of the printer was quite easy, and the on-line instruction manual is fairly good.

From my perspective, the only drawback to the product is that the ink cartridges don't hold much ink. Particularly if you are going to use it for other printing jobs (which I have had to do temporarily until I can get my other inkjet printer hooked up to my new computer), the ink goes very quickly. Buying ink cartridges from office supply stores can be VERY expensive: I plan to buy cartridge replacements on-line--where they are available for considerably less--now that I know how quickly they are used up.

An opinion on buying

I d ecided to find out if dye prints outlast Pigment prints. Some folks with real writing credentials are sitting on both sides and the middle of the fence. I will find out for myself.
Being happier in the field or studio and not reading icc setups or dye Print theory I will simply take some good photos and print them. Then I will hang them on my Fridge which will show the fade. Some will be behind glass, in my wallet andshown around by my wife who has a soft spot for Grandchildren. An old teacher once told me that until I had a 50 print show at the Museum of Fine Art then my credentials would always be lacking. So be it.
Most of these printers will be used in real life situations by folks who may sometimes get the e and u confused in musuem. I will just shoot and enjoy my 9000Mark2 and my Panasonic Lumix FZ35 camera. I am excited and hope to put the Photographic World spinning.
Opening the box and seeing the printer for the first time got my heart fluttering. Soon it was installed near my home built 2.83 Quad core. I was told Quad chips shine in Photos. The only software I own was the stuff included in the box. Adobe Elements 6 comes with it and that should get me by. I could explain what software does what but I'm happy to have it, Canon covered their ground with enough to get me to that show at the Met.
This is all I have since It came today. I am going "shooting", the Printer is settling down not quietly, but first RTM. Bye All till next chapter if there is one.

Good quality photo printer!

This one is replacing my pervious 9000 Mark II. At first thought to get the newer version but after looking at my drawer fill of ink, I decided why spend the big bucks on the newer model and have to buy all new ink. So this used unit serves me well and cost one third the price. I say why not!Read full review...

Magnificent photoprinter for a reasonable price.

-I decided to buy this photoprinter when trying to combine my photography hobby with my modern technology admiration and trust, and because I trust that I was right after the precise, brilliant and colorful pictures it yields in convenient sizes and a suposely "difficult to print" canvas media.
Besides these satisfactions, my slight dislike with this Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 MARK II photo printer is about its lack of readers for Photo Cameras memory cards, in order for full satisfaction to print without a PC dependence.
Nevertheless, I would by again a photoprinter like this.
