Good mid-level home printer. Its a little slow, but worth it - like barbeque

I've been using this printer for over a month now, not every day, but several times a week at several pages each time. We havent quite used up the first full paper tray(it holds about 250 sheets), and my wife(a school teacher) has printed a lot on other miscelaneous sizes of paper as well.

Overall, the print quality is very good on plain paper, I havent yet done any photo printing on photo paper. The copy feature works fine, but it isn't the same quality as a dedicated copier - no surprise there, it is an inkjet after all. The machine has a lot of bells and whistles( many of which I haven't used yet), but the ones I have used all work as advertised. We all especially like the wireless aspect, initial set-up and connection went smoothly and took maybe 45 minutes to an hour for three computers, and the onscreen interface is pretty intuitive and easy to use, but unneccesary for most operations like copying, faxing and even some printing operations. I like the individual ink cartridges and havent noticed a particularly heavy ink use (havent had to replace any yet). It has a fairly large footprint, but it looks nice and because of the wireless aspect, it can go almost anywhere with an outlet.

On the downside, it is pretty slow to start printing - at least wirelessly, though I haven't tried it directly connected, so I don't know if there is a difference there. Once it gets going, it isn't noticeably slower than any other printer I've had (though they were all lower end machines), but definately slower than a pro grade model. It isn't particularly loud, but you certainly know its working - I don't do much secret printing anyway, and don't know anyone that does so I'm not sure why this would be much of an issue unless you keep it in the crib with your sleeping baby (and in that case you have other issues). One other complaint is that the paper tray seems a little flimsy - both its construction and in the way it inserts into the bottom of the machine - but it hasn't broken or been a problem, it just feels like it might be one day so maybe it isn't really a fair complaint, it just doesn't feel like the same higher quality as the rest of the unit.

I would recommeend this machine at this price point. It may be a little slow at first, but, like the tortoise, it makes it up in the long run.

Good home printer with many print options. Easy to use.

Replacement for an older 3in1 that stopped working. This seemed to be the best 4in1 replacement for the price and the ability to buy or refill ink economically.

Easy to setup wireless. Just need your password for a secure network. Appears well made. Looks good. Only negative is the time it takes to accept the commands from the computer before it prints. For home use with limited amount of printing, it is a good buy because of all the features especially the printing options including automatic duplex printing.Read full review...

Excellent Printer for use with a Mac

I have two of these Cannon MX870 printers. I purchased this third one for my Grandchildren. I love this printer because it is such a workhorse, produces excellent quality copy and prints, and is easy and intuitive to use.

I cannot comment on how it works on Windows PC's but teamed with a Mac it is awesome.

I also appreciate you can find print cartridges and print heads on e-bay at excellent prices.

This printer is the best out there and does everything you want it to do. Easy setup, also.

I've had a printer like this since 2010 and NEVER had a problem in all these years. When it did die on me, I tried to find someone to repair it and Nobody repairs printers and the new ones are cheaply made. So, I decided to buy a refurbished one like I had and so far I've had no problems. I'm still keeping my other one just in case I find someone to repair it. Canon did a great job when they made this MX870.Read full review...

Fantastic Printer

I have been using this printer since 2010 and it has served me well. I replaced the print head a couple times; about $25 on EBay.

Pros- prints fast, prints on just about everything, ink is cheap, rear cassette paper trays, easy to set up. faxes, copies, scans and prints. It is better than the new printers now sold in the stores.

cons- the print head lasts about five years before replacement

This was one of the best cannon printers ever made, this is why people pay a premium. I liked it so much I got another one to replace this one.

This is a GREAT All-In-One printer!

Nice All-In-One! Prior to this, I had an Epson unit that was very noisy, had a paper feed that constantly grabbed more than one page at a time and used more ink than I have ever used before. During my first year with the Epson, it had to be replaced within the first 3 months of use. I won't even begin to discuss all of the aggravating experiences I had with the Lexmark units I have owned (all of them died just after the warranty ended)!

Since I have another Canon printer (Pixma IP-2600)that I use when traveling, I decided to give this one a try. That printer was a very inexpensive model that I purchased at a close-out store and it never gave me a problem. Purchasing the MX870 has proved to be a very wise decision.

Compared to my old Epson All-In-One, which cost over $100 more than this one, this unit is quite large and much heavier. This really isn't a big thing as it will not move from where it is set-up.

It is also very quiet and the print quality is just as good as any other printer I have owned. I also like that individual color cartridges are utilized. This will save a lot of money since you don't have to replace a single tri-color cartridge just because one of the colors run out.

The auto-paper feeder works like a charm! I have used this function several times and so far, it takes one page at a time. This is a great thing as I had to sit at the old Epson and separate each page to make sure it didn't grab 5 pages at a time.

I have to admit that I was a little intimidated when I first took it out of the box and saw all of the control/function buttons (this was an EBay purchase that was made without actually seeing a display model in a store). Despite the fact that it has more buttons than the average All-In-One, it is easy to use. I am sure that once I have a chance to read through the entire owners manual and discover more ways to use it, I will like it even better.

I highly recommend this unit!

MX 870

I picked this printer because it appeared that recurring costs would be significantly less than other brands I am familiar with. My HP all in one of 8 or 9 years was having significant feed problems and I needed more than one computer to be able to access the functions of the all in one without wanting to using all my desk space on printers. So far I have been tickled to death with this printer. The transfer time between computer and printer is quick, as is the time to print. Photo printing from a scan was better than I expected. It feeds envelopes reliably, and feeds documents for copying more like a business printer than I would ever have expected to be able to afford. I did have the engineer in the house enable the wireless function, have had too many bad experiences with setting something up wrong, and practically having to clear out the entire computer to start over. I have to remember that the caassette prints on the bottom side of the paper as loaded. If printing checks, I'll have to use the rear paper tray, or reverse my check order when loading.
The unit arrived as specified, when specified, for a great price, and is one of those products I'm very enthusiastic about. It offers a wide range of uses, is quick and easy to perform them. I heartily recommend this device.

Printer works as expected

The printer works fine and, for a refurbished item, was probably a little expensive. However, I had lots of ink left over from our previous one, which is expensive. So getting the exact same printer saved me moneyRead full review...

I love this thing...

It's WIRELESS, that means I can print from my lap-top in the back yard. Photos are amazing. I never knew how useful a scanner is. I scan EVERYTHING. The fax is not so good, but who faxes anymore, just scan your document and E-MAIL it!!!! Every computer that is on the internet at my house can use all of the functions. The ink is soooo cheap. My school-aged kids need to print everything, and in color too. It has TWO paper access points, one for regular paper, and one for card stock or photo paper. It is a little large, but it is a small BUSINESS printer, not something that you hide in the corner.Read full review...

Bought this second hand. Great value for money

Update user 02/18
The printer stopped working. It indicates a printer error B200, the printer can no longer be used. Rebooted, re-installed the software, checked on internet and seems to be inherent mistake to this printer. Basically has become useless.

Versatile product, wifi connection, can serve multiple computers. Works for MAC and Windows. Separate ink cartridges for each color. Total 5 cartridges. Print quality very nice. Cartridges still available through ebay
