One of Robert Altman's best films. I must've watched this film about five times now. George Segal and Elliott Could put in two of a kind performances. Highly recommended.

true picture of a gambling addict

Robert Altman always gave his own touch to topics that weren't necessarily mainstream. California Split gives an accurate picture of the highs and lows of a gambling addict. The need to have the bet outweighing the winning or losing. Segal and Gould are likeable able but flawed characters that play their parts to the hilt. They aren't evil, they are weak. The film's finale is a little unrealistic, but atleast it isn't a sappy conclusion to a film about compulsive behavior. I speak from experience about this problem and did not feel Altman judges or preaches nor glorifies those involved.Read full review...

Great movie if you're into casino gambling, or if you like Elliot Gould! While boring at times, the action scenes are first rate. A must-see!!
