What a difference the SACD format can make!

When I realized that my Sony Blu-Ray player can play back CDs in the now-rare SACD format, I sought out a couple of my favorite albums to see if this format makes a difference. Does it ever! Not only does it play this beautifully produced album in 192khz 24bit, but it does so in Dolby 5.1 surround sound, which is the next best thing to having the band in your living room. I’m going to start looking for more of my favorite albums in this sadly-discontinued format. Oh, and the album just might be Mark Knopfler’s masterpiece, although his catalog is uniformly smashing. I’m only sorry that Mr. Knopfler has lately become so bitter about the effects of his musical career upon his health and family.Read full review...

This CD Brought Tears Of Joy

"Brothers In Arms" was the very first CD I ever bought and used to use it to show off this new thing called a CD player back in the mid 80s. Recently I bought a 4K BluRay player and it played SACDs. So the first SACD had to be "Brothers In Arms", The sound is phenomenal. The music comes at you from all angles, enveloping you in each track. Being a music nut, I'm not ashamed to say I weeped tears of joy as I heard this album like I had never heard it before. This comes highly recommended from one lifelong fan of music in general.Read full review...

Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" SACD for Audiophiles

If you enjoy high resolution multi-channel audio music then this Dire Straights Disc is a must have no matter what. It will test your speakers and system at each level of performance with all instruments known to push the drivers of your speakers in all directions. I have the original DVD-Audio 5.1 version and now I've purchased this SACD multi-channel version as well. Equally as good as the DVD-Audio version if not a bit better. Get it and use it to tweak your systems potential and occasionally listen to it too.Read full review...

Redo a HiFi classic?

The original release of this disc has always been a favorite of mine. Smooth with excellent depth and width of stage. The songs ran the gamut of emotions and content. Knoplfer demonstrates you don't need speed or a lot of flash to truly speak with an instrument.
This new re-recording takes nothing away from the original. It does add more dynamic range and impact. Mark's voice is much more forward and present. I can't make comment on surround sound encoding, I only listen in two channel. I must say, SACD does sound superior to standard CD recordings even without true 5.1 decoding in my system.
I would highly recommend this disc if you're on the fence!

My New 2nd favorite 5.1 SACD just behind DSOTM

I was never a big fan of the full album except for the MTV song. I have been seeing all the good reviews so thought I would give it a try at this low price. Turns out the 5.1 mix is amazing! completely changes and improves each song. Sound quality is excellent along with instrument separation. Bass digs really deep with my SVS sub.Read full review...

Brothers In Arms Dire Straits SACD

The SACD compared to the cd version was way more detailed. The organ in Brothers in Arms was very pronounced in the SACD vs the CD version. Little details like that makes all the differance to big Dire Straits/Audiophile fans. You also get guitars and other instruments surrounding you and seperately is a really neat experience vs just stereo version. I bought it because I just purchased a Oppo 93 and it has the ability to play SACD's.Read full review...

Classic 80s DIre Straits in multichannel high resolution

Classic 80s recording in high resolution sound. The 5.1 mix is an added benefit of the SACD. The dynamics of the introduction to Money for Nothing is worth the price of disc. Highly recommened

SACD worth the purchase!

I already owned this album on CD and it sounded very good. I will say I am very happy that I decided to buy the SACD anyway. This recording is remastered and the sound quality improvement is very significant. It has a much more spacious soundstage and the dynamics are much more lifelike in presentation. I realize that this is not a pure DSD recording but the original master must have been a high bit rate PCM recording. The transfer to DSD for SACD is excellent! I would recommend this to anyone who already loves this music.Read full review...

A great price for a great title

This was a REAL score! An in-demand title SACD in 5.1 new in the wrap that sold for less than when it came on the market 15 years ago! Totally pleased with it all the way, around from the shape to the playability. Read full review...
