This motor works great

it's shaped slightly different than my original 1982 model on my snapper hi vac power drive mower. but nothing drilling a few new holes in the mower couldnt fix. The only catch is the blade brake and kill setup. For my older mower that never had the bail and brake setup. I had to remove this and fabricate a bracket using the original throttle lever and control from the old motor. I just mowed my back yard after two months of not having a mower the grass is knee high. On the lowest ground speed setting the engine had no problem cutting and bagging with minimal lugging down. Also had to replace the blade adapter and drive pulley. Since the original was 7/8" and this one is 1" new blade and hi vac wings as well the original was wore out. The local shop wants almost $1,000 for a new snaper hi vac rear power drive with this same motor. I am only into it under $400. With everything. And I get to keep my 38 year old, thick, rust free aluminum mower deck.Read full review

by TOP CRITICAL REVIEW

Adequate replacement engine for walk behind mower.

Replacement for original engine on 21" snapper walk behind. Has adequate power for mulching and a good match for this mower. So far no issues starting. Poor design air cleaner that drops dirt into carb during cleaning. No throttle control, constant speed only. No factory drain plug to change oil. Factory says oil change not necessary? I installed a drain plug and drained after first 2 hour break in, Oil was full of metal from break-in. The engineers that would say this have no practical experience with engines and need to get jobs in a shop to see how the real world works. This engine was not expensive as I was looking at others at twice the cost. You will have to tap the mounting holes and drill and install a pipe plug to drain the oil. If you don't have the tools necessary have your mower shop do the install. The starter is not adjustable for positioning. It faces the rear and not the side for starting. The grommet in the cowling for the cord is poorly designed and pulling cord from an angle will cause cord to wear out rapidly. much plastic on this engine. Starter and cowling are not durable. This is my 2nd time purchasing this engine. the first one's crankshaft bent after hitting a root. Cast crank is very soft and B & S does not sell a replacement crank so the engine is a throw away. Shame Briggs has taken a once good company and ruined it producing cheap plastic engines that are not durable.Read full review

Never again

I bought this to replace an engine on a DR push trimmer i got in 2017. Out of the clear blue after just 4 1/2 seasons it won’t start. Being the middle of summer and the cost of labor I thought it would be quicker to just replace the engine and probably not be too much difference in cost. The engine I received was manufactured in 2019. The same size, model number and everything and didn’t realize until I had it installed that the output shaft is about an eighth inch larger than the engine I was replacing. Of course, the pulleys wouldn’t fit so I pulled it off and returned it. A big waste of time and money. Read full review

Purchased a Briggs and Stratten 8.75 will not run and I'm returning it!

It looks nice but It would not start. No spark. It has no choke, no way to control the speed, no fuel shut off, no way to stop the engine. You must make your own ground to the coil! Really a lot of dumb design features to try to make it easy for a novice owner.
Like trying to make a car for a person who can't drive? Then they say no need to change the oil and no oil drain. That is really bad design and not reality to maintain an engine.

A great replacement.

This engine is better than expected. I needed a replacement for my Snapper Hi-Vac mower. The new one I just bought filled the bill where it was most important. Same length, diameter, and keyway width on the output shaft, plenty of power I did not realize it the time of ordering the engine, it came as constant speed, no throttling. After thanking about how the old engine was run, great, single speed is fine with me. The only problem installing the replacement was the mounting holes were not threaded. I guess the factory skipped a step. A 3/8" NC tap took care of that speed bump. The engine started fine on the 2nd pull. For me it was worth getting.Read full review

Replaced a 24 year old 6.5hp Briggs & Stratton engine that over heated earlier this year. Still ran but starting to smoke, loosing power. About 10 years ago replaced similar engine with a GT8 with good results. If I get another 24 years out of the Ariens LM21S, I'll be 95.Read full review

DO NOT BY FROM THESE PEOPLE

auto choke does not work properly take over five minutes to warm up and turn off, leaking oil from front valve cover and cannot get it to seal up, and also compression kickback that will rip your shoulder out. Had engine less than a month and attempted to make contact with seller and they DO NOT GUARANTEE what they sell.Read full review

Fits my 40+ year old Snapper rider :)

Starts on easy first half-pull!
Does not have a throttle - runs at high RPM which is pre-set OK.
Has a flywheel break with a very strong spring.
25mm shaft does mean one US inch diameter (rounds up).Read full review

They all need shutoff valve for fuel line.
