Easy to use product, works as advertised, slightly noisy.

I bought this because I am learning a slap bass style and wanted something to moderate the peaks when switching between fingered and slapped playing, and it works well for this purpose. The ratio, threshold, and level knobs are easy to fine tune to whatever you need to do as far as a limiter is concerned. I wasn't too thrilled with the enhancer feature - not really sure what this does exactly except it does add quite a lot of noise. Even if you have the enhancer effect turned all the way down it still colors the sound of my bass. I think my bass sounds better without the enhancer, but if I am playing a tune where I want to switch back and forth betweeen fingerstyle and slap this does an excellent job of keeping the peaks under control, enough to mitigate the slightly altered tone color.

Construction quality is very good, and it seems very sturdy. I feel confident that this will last a long time.

Cheap, but excellent!

As a single pedal with 4 basic functions, you won't get the complete flexibility and tone of lets say a Carl Martin limiter/enhancer. However, this small pedal performs well and gives you that extra control over your overall bass sound and level.

A lot of guitar pedal reviews complain about the excess noise created from the pedal, including this pedal. What some people don't realize is that the lack of power supplied to the pedal is the main reason, not the pedal itself. First, generalizing bass pedals, they require a lot more current than guitar pedals. Guitar pedals may require as little as 5mA to 20mA for a single stomp pedal like this but the bass version could require up to 70mA for basic effects. So the 9V battery without an external power supply for this pedal may or may not produce a lot of noise for you using this pedal, but for me it hasn't made any noticeable noise. Got noise? Be safe and provide the pedal with double the "minimum" required current to operate. Voodoo Pedal Power ISO-5 or the Sanyo Pedal Juice works absolutely great with this pedal. I would not recommend the DC-brick (if you use more than 3 bass pedals) or the 1-spot (for the same reason as DC brick) as these do not supply enough overall current and steady power.

The "enhance" knob is the main shaping tone for this pedal and gives the bass that extra clarity, power, and presence for that cut through punch. Again, increasing this knob passed the 9 o'clock position might start producing noise, so feed the pedal more current! Combining the enhance feature with the limiter, you'll get a nice punch to your slap lines without those messy loud peaks. This pedal is definitely a great pedal to have in your rack to control the overall balance and sound combined with all your other pedals, or even as a standalone pedal the boss bass limiter/enhancer pedal can possibly give your bass that sound you've always wanted in a more expensive bass :)

Helps you more than you'd think.

I bought this pedal as just simply a way to help some popping and such that goes on within my amp when I decide that it's more important to play rough and loud (having too much fun and getting carried away) than to play sonically correct for a few select songs.

First I tested it out and seemed to work as per the reason I got it but then when I went to a jam session. I noticed that this pedal was doing soooo much more than just helping level out all the noises when they peaked or just shot up abruptly.

This pedal as I found out is not just for those who like to play hard and/or slap.. This pedal is almost as important to me now as any EQ. Each note when the pedal is off sometimes it's molded together and sounds muddy when playing several notes at once or chords. When you want more than one note to ring at a time this will make ALL the difference in the world. Each note comes out crystal clear.

BUY THIS PEDAL!

Pro's:
Keeps volumes at a safe and constant levels
Notes are better separated and almost seem to ring out better

Con's:
none unless you're not a fan of the color???

Playing Background:
Enthusiast and bassist for several bands for the past 10 years.

Playing style:
Just about anything. Started playing stuff like Blink 182 and Green Day then ventured toward some Sublime, jazz, and funk. Mostly stay around an Alternative Genre.

Equipment:
Ampeg Head
Ampeg 115 and 410 speaker cab's
Fender American Deluxe
Warwick Corvette 5
Custom Built Jazz, With EMG electronics

Must have bass effects pedal

Now that I've had this for about a month, I could definitely say this is a crucial pedal to have if you don't have an amp with built in compression. As others describe, it allows you to eliminate the peaks that cause clipping or distortion from slap/pop or fast double picking. The enhancing feature will boost the velocity of a note that is plucked to lightly, which is great for finger plucking style. All around it makes your playing sound smoother and consistent. These are features generally utilized in recording, so this allows you to acheive that with your live sound. And since it's a Boss, it's a tank. Make sure you get one with a manual since it may not be as easy to figure out settings as it is with other pedals.Read full review...

Awesome sound! Great Pedal!!!

When playing by yourself, you will notice the effect this pedal has on your sound. When playing with a band, this pedal is superb! I have a very aggresive finger playing style, and my volume used to jump all over the place. This pedal smooths everything right out. I had a much more involved compressor before, and it was just too much to deal with. This pedal is easy to use, and very effective. If you have volume spikes due to a wild playing style, this is what you want.

Great Quality at a Great Price!

I needed a pedal that would help with some of the peaks and valleys that you have in playing in a live performance. It helped with the attack and gave me quite a bit more sustain sweeten up the highs and lows. Does a reel good job for the price and in a small package! This is one of my first Pedals so I can not do much of an comparison... But for what it is worth I like what I got. and from what I can tell Its going to last me a life time. That's worth a lot to me right there. Don't know whats not to like Great price and Great Quality!Read full review...

Nice basic bass compressor

I use it with a DEAN acoustic bass to smooth out the volume. I have it in front of a Behringer BDI21 into a GK MB200 Works great for my needs.

Boss Bass Limiter Enhancer

Really love this pedal, I now use it instead of a compression pedal. I will not go over the features, as you can research those elsewhere, but all I will say us that I would not want to be without this pedal -- it evens out the signal and make my Pbass sound great into my Hiwat amp!Read full review...
