"Boom!" by Tom Brokaw

great book for anyone who lived through the '60's, or anyone who did not. It is a snapshot of many of the events that were happening in the "background" while we were growing up. I was politically active, but really did not know all the machinations that were going on in the government and in the social and economic world while we were trying to fix the world with peace and love, Yes, I am an aging hippie. Now hat it is 40 years later, things are being revealed that kicked off so many things that were happening in the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, at home and inthe work places. The women's movement, civil rights and so many others that came together like "the Perfect Storm" at a time when we were asking questions like "Are you Beatles or Beach Boys" and deciding whether we wanted our boyfriends to have jacked up cars or low riders. I was in southern California and thse events happened in my own backyard, acros the country and certainly around the world. I recommended this book to my book club members and most of us really enjoyed it. We are a pretty international group so it was a great history lesson - we lived - through. Especially our Canadian and Swiss members who did not live in the US got a great glimpse of a most interesting time in history. Great and easy read although it is a thick book. Highly recommend.Read full review...

Boom!

Reading BOOM! takes me back to the 1960's, after High School graduation. It is so amazing to read what all these people thought of the times, and politcs, music, and cultural changes. My generation went from being raised to be young ladies, and gentlemen, to questioning anyone over 30, and protesting the war in Viet Nam, and resenting anyone in authority. We let our hair grow, went to see "HAIR", sat in the Dean's office, inthe street, got shot at, billy-clubbes, tear gassed, and hated by the older generation for our views. Turns out we were right. A pleasure to read this book, and know people all over, of all cultures were thinking, and acting the same. Maybe we need more of this now.Read full review...

BOOM by Tom Brokow

I got this book for my dad for Christmas and ended up reading it before I gave it to him. It was a great book by one of the most interesting men I've ever known. A great newscaster and now a great writer.Read full review...

Boom!

Who else could write a book about the 60's at such an advantage with that time and the present? My hat's off to Tom Brokaw and the people that helped further paint that time in history. I was a younger boomer than Tom and his wife, but it puts another twist on those times.Read full review...

Boom!

Boring for much of the book-Tom rambles on but I needed the book as a reference for some of the information he, or his staff researched on the sixties.
