Hell yeah this tool is awesome!!
To start, let me tell you how they open: you push down and kind of to the side so that the grippers near the handle clear each other, then pull back.
I'm a leatherworker and I use this tool for stiff and thick leather that my regular clamps can't hold, so I can sew curves.
Sometimes I use it to spin twine, and it is perfect for holding fibres and spinning. The finger slots also can hold a weight for tension if needed while spinning.
