Almost Great - Killed by lack of EQ

This amp has a lot of potential and has a good basic low gain and over drive tone, but the lack of EQ makes it really only viable with a few speakers and cabinets.

The lone ISF knob is just not enough to make this amp head work with different speakers and cabinets. There is a woofy-ness to the bass and a shrill high end that can't be dialed in properly with the one EQ knob. I tried this witha Celestion Gold, Eminence JS1250, Greenback in variety of cabinets. Each had something good but also something that couldn't be corrected in the tone.

Also as the gain is turned up, the tone suffers from the sever compression and muddiness that seems to plague many Blackstar amps. Almost like they are trying to mimic a 4x12's cabinet resonance and comb filtering.

The concept is great and the Reverb is very good. Peronally I would have loved to see them get rid of the USB and the mp3 inputs and put more EQ options on it. Even just a tone knob would have been a huge improvement.

If you want a simpler and cheaper take on this concept with much better EQ - look to the Bugera T5.
