Great starter microphone
This was my dream microphone for location sound. It is versatile between indoor and outdoor environments, sound quality is great especially for a shotgun mic at its price range. The battery slot makes it available to use with a wireless transmitter or with any device that cannot supply phantom power. I highly recommend this microphone to anyone in the location sound field recording field regardless of their budget.Read full review...

Audio-Technica AT897 Professional Microphone
I have several Audio-Technica mics they all serve a purpose, are inexpensive (not cheaply made) & work very well. I decided to get an XLR mic for video recordings with my GL2. I attached the AT897 to a XLR adapter with pre amp...WOW what a difference!! The AT897 has a sharp, rich dynamic audio that has improved my video 1000%. I will never use the on camera mic again. The AT897 kit is well worth the inexpensive investment!!!Read full review...
Auio Tech AT897 shotgun mic
Nice sleek design, will be hung from the lighting rails for our community theater. I now have three for vocal coverage.

Very good high quality semi-professional mic with an outstanding price.
This is one excellent quality shotgun microphone with low handling noise very directional . It has a built-in AA battery compartment for those without phantom power (that lasts 1000+ hours) and also has an 80Hz low cut switch that's impossible to flip accidentally. Comes with battery, windscreen foam and a holder.
If you want to use this excellent quality microphone with a dSLR or small video camera with jack input you'll need a short cable to connect XLR Female to mini jack 3.5mm. You'll also need a hot shoe shockmount. Other than that it has a high quality and standard XLR connection that can be used with any 40cm long blimp, boom pole or tripod.Read full review...
Affordable, not cheap...
Audio Technica makes some good, affordable, specialty mics - and the AT 897 is one of them. I've used one before on several video shoots and I was surprised at how good the audio was. To be sure, there are more expensive shotgun mics that are amazing, but if you're looking for a decent mic that can get it done, this is a great option...Read full review...

Had to fix mic on my own
No disclosure that the microphone had MAJOR corrosion. Batter was exploded inside mic and was extremely difficult to open so I could replace the battery. Had to fix it myself. Probably wouldn’t have minded if this info was disclosed.Read full review...

perfect mic,for proffessional use, get the voice for far away, but do not get the noise.

Excellent Mic for low budget
This is a great microphone for budgeted videographers. The polar pattern is incredibly spot on. I've even used it for instrument recordings (amplified and acoustic).
