The new Apple iPod Touch 4th Generation!!! Superb capability!! Versatile!!!

I never had any previous generations of the Apple iPod touch, but this one (4th generation Black 8 gb) is amazing!!! There is so many things this little handheld device can do! You can download up to 11 pages of apps. Each page holds up to 16 apps. That's 176 apps total, plus the 4 that always stays at the bottom of the page. There are SO MANY FREE apps on the market it's not even funny. Actually, it is funny. :) The features are great! It allows you to have a passcode lock for security. A camera, that switches views from looking out to looking in at you. You can get the weather, watch videos downloaded from iTunes, and getting 100s to 1000s different songs. The only thing Apple needs to work on is making the device to have longer battery life, and a not so easy to scrath and get fingerprints on back for it. If you get one, you should really consider getting a case for it. Overall, this is really the ideal gadget/toy. I give it 5*****'s all around! I LOVE IT!!! I got a great deal for it on eBay, too!Read full review...

Good Product for the price

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old daughter. Although she cannot do much on it, she enjoys using it for music. I wish I had looked into the product a bit more prior to purchasing, because I wanted her to have a way to "face time" me or contact me, but because I have a droid, she is unable to do so. With that said, she is never really without us, so this isn't the end of the world. We were also unable to download games form the app store. All in all it's a great little Ipod, with great sound quality.Read full review...

Fun little gadget!

Ipod, always excellent quality, good sound, fun for a photo take-a-long, lots of extra gear available (would suggest a package of gadgets available for the nano on ebay). Down side, my husband thinks it's a bit small for his large hands, but found a cool external speaker case that holds his nano and ear buds just fine (10 bucks). The FM radio player is a great attachment for the nano. Makes workouts and housework go quicker with great entertainment! Holds videos up to 8 hours and lots of podcasts, too!Read full review...

Good value for your money.

The 4g is a great step up from the 1g touch, 2g, and even 3g.
With an A4 chip, which is supposed to run at 1ghz, it actually is underclocked at 800-850 mhz max, which is still pretty darn good and fast. The retina display is amazing, and you Really have to see it to believe it. It's pretty amazing that they put so much more into one device, and managed to make it thinner.
Steve Jobs once said it was the iPhone 4 without the phone, and he was pretty much correct. The only flaws with the iPod touch 4 are the poor still shot camera, but I'm not much of a camera guy, and don't mind it, and the fact that apple still use the Chrome backing, which is dreaded.
Also, this might be my big hands, but because of the tapered design, pressing the volume buttons/sleep wake are a little harder, but it's alright.

Never had an iPod but I'm lovin' it

I had a Rio 5 Gig for a couple of years and I loved it, the ancient interface notwithstanding. But the battery went and is irreplaceable, so I figured it was time to break down and go for an iPod like the rest of my family.
I've only had it a few days but so far I'm loving it. The design is beautiful. The new graphic interface has the feel of the iPhone. Loading with iTunes is very easy. Note that if you use both Mac and PC like me, format it first on the PC and you will be able to load from any computer. Also not that the only movie format it takes is MP4 from what I can tell so far.
Only two downsides to this point. One, you'll want to get a case if you want to move it around from pocket to napsack to dresser etc. There are several types available on eBay (I've ordered a Belkin). The other thing is very minor - you may find using the click-wheel is a little bit clumsy for aging (50+) fingers. But I expect I'll get more used to it.

Brand new product

The iPad was delivered as advertised, on time and in perfect shape. However in the Apple World, it is obsolete so you cannot download any apps from the Apple Store. No books, no games, no music, no readers, no productivity apps, no nothing. The ios is too old to meet the minimum requirements. What a shame as it is perfect for a reader. My old iPod became erratic, which is why I ordered this new one.Read full review...

Pleased

The product arrived a day earlier than expected. The iPod is in excellent condition and looks just like the picture showed. My only drawbacks were the case it came with does not properly fit the iPod and falls off, and not being able to upgrade the software to iOS 7.0 or higher which is required to download most apps. All in all, the product is exactly as described, works exceptionally well and arrived earlier than expected.Read full review...

What you need to know about the iPod touch 4.

The iPod touch 4 is a great improvement, compared to it's predecessors, but it still doesn't offer as much as expected.
We all know the pros of this item. However, there are a lot of things that are rarely mentioned.

* It has great resolution, however the TN matrix with it's poor viewing angles spoils the fun. Fixed in the iPhone, but it isn't cheap.
* No memory card slot. Why?
* I have to admit it - the WiFi is great, has better signal then most devices out there.
* The bluetooth is very limited. I couldn't connect to my phone... or any other non-apple device at that matter.
* Only a few supported audio/video formats and codecs. I had to convert all of my FLAC songs and every one of my movies. In which century do we live in? My phone supports even ".mkv". The iPod, which is meant for media and games only, supports only a few audio and video formats and codecs!?
* It is annoying to have to use the iTunes for every little thing. You can't even move a photo/picture to the iPod without it... Thanks limited bluetooth.
* It has only one hardware key, which is kind of annoying. I wish it had a "back" button next it. Or at least the on-screen button to be somewhere closer. Right now, it is as far away as possible... what are they thinking?
* The iOS has more apps than any other mobile platform out there, but the OS itself isn't as good as Android. iOS 5 proves that - it borrows a few ideas from the droid.
* Let's face it - the camera sucks. I have tried a few different programs, I have used the HDR option, even hacked it to do 1280x720 photos, which is more compared to the original 960x640. It still sucks.

The bottom line.
At it's price, it is a good option. It is average in everything. I recommend that you save up for a high-end android device. It just offers a lot more, enough to be worth it... unless you want only the basic stuff and to spend as little as possible for this type of a media and game device... then the iPod touch 4 is a good choice for you.
I'm a proud user of an android 2.3.3 device. I heard a lot of good things about the iOS and I just had to check it out. Now, after two weeks of playing around with my apple device, I have compared them. iOS vs Android. The iOS's appstore is a good competitor to the android's market, but only because it has a head start. The market is quickly catching up. Everyday I use my phone - Samsung GT-I9000 aka Galaxy S (the 2010 model, not the new one). I don't think even the iPhone 4 is a real competitor to a phone like that. Even with jailbreak. The difference in the capabilities is great. You'll realize how big it is, when you have the chance to test both. I think the iPod is a little overrated. Have that in mind. And yes, the iOS has a few more great games and apps, but one by one they are getting ported to the Android. Plus, is that enough to make it better? It is important to know what you want, and more importantly - what you need.

Your iPod Touch - a sci-fi marvel that puts the World in your shirt pocket!

Those who have never owned a PDA ("personal digital assistant") might wonder what the fuss is all about. But those who have one will soon begin to wonder how they ever got along without it. As PDA's go, Apple's iPod Touch is a first-class pocket-sized technological miracle that helps keep your life organized. It's an alarm clock; and an appointment calendar; and a camera; and a memo pad; and a calculator; and a photo storage box; and a music player; and a movie viewer; and a personal GPS that automatically tells you about weather conditions wherever you happen to be at the moment (and you can set up individual screens to automatically monitor weather conditions at as many other places you can think of, for that matter). And that's only the beginning. "FaceTime" is a special feature on iPods (also included on iPhones and iPads) that lets you talk face-to-face in real time to anyone else with similar equipment anywhere there is Internet access. I haven't used FaceTime yet on my iPod, but we sat with our next door neighbor on our front porch (in the Washington DC suburbs) while he talked to his wife (on extended assignment in Germany) for about an hour over his iPad (like an iPod, only bigger). We talked to her too, and she finally got to meet his neighbors face to face. Absolutely FREE, over the Internet, with great video quality. This is the reality of what used to be "science fiction." I'm still discovering new uses for my iPod Touch that I never knew existed. Almost got a smartphone (although I really don't like cell phones much, as they invade your privacy wherever you might be or whatever you might be doing). Monthly charges for cell phone services these days is an unnecessary expense unless you travel a lot, which I don't. But I wanted a way to electronically deposit checks, which is safer and less time-consuming than going to the bank. And I was told I would need either an iPhone or an Android phone to make those digital deposits. So it looked like I might have to have to buy a smart phone -- even though I don't like cell phones ... And I especially was NOT excited about the extra expense of $50 to $100 a month that it costs for cell phone service, when I didn't want a damned cell phone anyway. And then my neighbor told me about the iPod Touch. It has a high-quality camera (for taking pictures of checks, or anything else), and it automatically connects to FREE Wi-Fi networks almost anywhere, if you're be away from home. And it also has FaceTime (basically works just like my neighbor's iPad, only smaller). My iPod Touch has everything a smart phone has, and more. Except NO annoying phone, and NO monthly service charges. Learning about all of my iPod's different features might take awhile (LOL), but I'm enjoying my journey of discovery. One recommendation: If you get yourself an iPod, you might want to get a "STYLUS" as well -- it's like a pen that helps you type URL's (website addresses) or anything you might need to type into the iPod's on-screen keyboard, which tends to be a bit small for most human fingers. The stylus's rubber tip won't damage the iPod's touch screen, and it is a very useful iPod accessory. Expect to spend a dollar or two for the stylus. Additional iPod accessories you might want include a protective carrying case, and an ANTI-GLARE screen protector. (I've already ordered both on eBay, but they're not here yet.) There's nothing else I can say, except GET AN IPOD. Your life will never be the same!Read full review...
