Nice bedtime page turner for mystery fans

I watch the Teagarden series on Hallmark and love it. I decided to get the book, even though I knew the ending. There are some different twists in the book, so I'm glad I got the ENTIRE series. REAL MURDERS

I finally got around to reading the Aurora Teagarden mysteries and I love this small town librarian. Lawrenceton is located in Atlanta's suburbs and Aurora (Roe) belongs to a club called Real Murders, where members, once a month, take turns giving details on real murder cases from past or present. Things take a grizzly turn when Aurora shows up a little early at the VFW Hall to make sure all is running smoothly, and that Mamie Wright has the chairs set up and the coffee made since Roe is giving her lecture tonight on the Wallace Murder. That's where an insurance agent was accused of murdering his wife in their home, even though he was out meeting a client who never showed. What she finds is Mamie's body in the kitchen...she's dead. One of the detectives, Arthur Smith, a member of the Real Murder group, quickly calls the police and after discussing some details with Roe, they both realize that Mamie's body was arranged to look like the picture of the dead Mrs. Wallace. Even the circumstances of her husband being an insurance agent figured into the murder. What they had here was a "copycat" killer! The group disbands out of fear that one of them is the killer, but the crimes don't stop there. More club members are killed as described in past crimes, including the Lizzie Borden Murders. With the help of a guest author at the last meeting, Robin Crusoe, Roe tries to find out if more than one person could be involved. Robin's expertize in writing about crimes comes in handy as they uncover the axe to the Border style murders. When her half-brother, Phillip, who is 6 years old, stays with Roe for the weekend, everything comes to a head. The killer(s) become sloppy and put her and Phillip in a world of danger as another old crime is plotted using the child.
This series is well written and I never guessed who did the deed until near the end. I always like that! It had me on the edge of my seat in several places. Clever, fast pacing and lots of red herrings throughout the whole book. You also learn about some gruesome past crimes in history.Read full review...

good reads, nice characters

enjoyed the Hallmark series and wanted to read the originals. movies drifted from the book series but CH was advisor on the series so I don't think they lost anything. Good reads, glad I was able to get the set and race thru them once I started.Read full review...

Easy & relaxed read, but is better borrowed from the library.

The Aurora Teagarden series has a completely different feel and writing style than the Sookie Stackhouse series (my favorite) or the Lily Bard. It is a bit slower and has more of an easy reading feel. The climaxes and suspense are not as intense as some of Charlaine Harris's other books and this series doesn't deal with the supernatural. True to her writing style, this book has excellent character development and an easy to follow story. I think I would have just borrowed this series from the library, but it is enjoyable.Read full review...

I love these books! They are just like one of the movies but in book form! Roe as she is called in the movies makes a great detective as well as a great librarian!! I highly recommend these books!

Sleuthing procedural

I am sure the author is tired of readers comparing her other series to Ms Stackhouse, but that is almost inevitable. Anyways.....I enjoyed the latter so much that I gave the first three of this older series a try. I made it throught this first in the 'Teagarden series', but was not captured, mostly as I found the connections to 'true crime' stories of the past to be formulaic. However, something in the character struck a chord and I carried on with books 2-3 and have just ordered 4-7.Read full review...
