Learn history from the sources, Hamilton's brilliant.

This is my favorite book in years. I was pulled into this story like no biography I've read. Fantastic life and fantastic writing. I came out of this book feeling like I'd been part of history, not just had someone tell me what happened. I understand the whole history of the founding much better and the conflicts that errupted between ideologies. Most importantly I think Chernow provides a convincing view of how Hamilton was the greatest of the founding fathers in his brilliance, foresight and administrative genious. Jefferson does not emerge looking to virtuous and upstanding. Chernow quotes from letters and correspondence as well as other documents of the time to paint a picture that gives a more complete picture of the time America was founding. Alexander Hamilton is clearly America's most under-appreciated founder.Read full review...

Fantastic Read

For those interested in the founding fathers, but have exhausted the numerous books on the big three (Washington, Adams, Jefferson), this is the book for you. Comparing it to recent masterpieces such as "John Adams" and "Washington's Crossing" is a bit difficult, mostly because those books benefited from having legendary stars at the center of the story, not to mention the first two Presidents of the United States. However, Ron Chernow's book awakens it's reader to the fact that Alexander Hamilton was perhaps the very first American to experience "the American Dream", arriving in this country as a foreigner and rising to the very top of the pile, all within a relatively short period of time. Perhaps more than anything else, Hamilton will be remembered for his complexity and lasting brilliance. Both of these traits are on full display in Mr. Chernow's book, which provides a fresh look at an important founding father.Read full review...

Hamilton...what an adventure!

A history teacher recommended this book to me and now I am hooked on reading American history. Hamilton was such an amazing story and Ron Chernow really put it into excellent words...for me it was a real page turner. I think this could be on every history teachers list of required reading in High School.

Enriching and Enlightening

Having fallen in love with Hamilton The Musical, was curious about the book Lin-Manuel Miranda based it on. It's very readable and I can see how his amazing lyrics rose from these pages. It deepens my appreciation for the fact that our founding fathers were real human beings trying to figure out how to build a new country.Read full review...

Excellent Book … Even without the Musical

Excellent biography. Actually read before my granddaughter explained that Lin-Manuel Miranda had used the book for his musical “Hamilton”. I enjoy political autobiography as well as biographies and this book is a great read.Read full review...

Thorough and riveting account of Hamilton's vital life a compelling read

Not just one of my favorite history books, but one of my favorite books bar none. After reading this thorough account of Hamilton's life, it is obvious to me that he is the most important Founding Father never to become president. A compelling read from his tragic childhood years to his ascension to be George Washington's indispensable right hand man to his self-inflicted undoing. If you know him more for the famous way he died, it's time you found out about the significant way he lived. Highest recommendation.Read full review...

Great book!

Great book, with a clear description of all historical independence events in which Hamilton deeply rooted himself. Amazing how even at the founding of the US an immigrant was adopted and served our country with no limits.Read full review...
