Good for aspiring scholars. . .

This reader is great if you aspire to be an East Asian scholar and are already ok with reading Japanese - the readings are tough - some called "intermediate" are really advanced. Many of the topics concern traditional Japanese stuff, with obscure (compared to the average newspaper etc) technical terms in some cases. It will help aspiring scholars get used to reading harder stuff.
However, if you are just trying to learn to read Japanese - get another book. Only a masochist would like this book as a general introduction to reading Japanese.Read full review...
