UNOR3 CH340G clone

I was hesitant to buy this board since it uses a different USB chip than the "standard" UNO3 clones (those that use the 16U2 chip). I decided to risk a $10 bill for two of them and was not disappointed. The only difference other than the USB chip is that the led's on the "standard" board are yellow while the led's on this board are red - not an issue for me. The board works fine once you get the correct driver for Windows. Linux works out of the box (Ubuntu, Mint) with OS provided driver. Windows driver is easy to find on the web. I used version ch341ver(34)zip with no issues with either Arduino IDE or Atmel Studio.Read full review

It works?

What do you expect? It's a CH340G based CLONE of an Arduino UNO R3

For anyone who isn't familiar with these or Arduino in general:

The genuine UNO uses the Atmega8U2 as a USB driver to create a virtual serial port(COM4, COM6, etc),

These cheap Chinese clones use the CH340G in place of the Atmega8U2, that is NOT usually a problem for most people, and in fact I've had a much better experience with the CH340G in programming specifically, applications I create to communicate with my Arduino based projects have much better luck whereas the Atmega8U2 will give me trouble and sometimes requires addition steps to be taken to make my applications compatible, the CH340G has also proven to me to be a faster solution.

However one slight drawback is the surface mount MCU package, in my genuine Arduinos i can simply place my Atmega328p DIP package onto a hand-etched or proto board with the DIP socket soldered in place, this is not possible using these UNO clones, which is not a huge deal but will definitely limit your options if you intend to make a lot of stand-alone devices. Thankfully you can solder some extra male headers to the bottom of the clone to fit it on a protoboard with a little rigging, or just make a male-female R3 compatible socket to plug the entire board into.

For the most part, you can use it in place of a normal Arduino UNO R3.

Excellent Board & USB-B Socket

Pros: excellent board (no flaws in holes or circuits). The fact that this board has holes as well as the stick sockets for patch plugs is very nice. I usually hard wire to these holes for reliability, once design is finalized. The full size USB-B socket is much more convenient/reliable than the micro USB socket.
Cons: The cable is short and too stiff. (I use any of the longer and more flexible cables)
This cable is not important (the board more than makes up for it).

Works great.

I have had no issues running these boards. I bought several for various projects. One is currently running my CNC router with out a single issue. You may have to download a driver to run the board, I wouldn't know since I've downloaded all the necessary drivers for other boards prior to purchasing these. If you can't figure out how to get the proper drivers I would assume Arduino driven projects aren't for you.
I would buy again, I have two spares lying around just in case. Great value, zero issues.

Great micro controller, Settings to program this device are a little different than the original UNO R3.

The original UNO used the board type "Adruino/Genuino UNO" and programmer "AVRISP mkII" programmer and it was a little tricky finding the correct setting here as there is no documentation that comes with this device and the programmer for this Arduino is different...

The first step is to select the board type "Adruino/Genuino UNO", then select the programming port, and finally you must select the Programmer "ArduinoISP". Then your sketches should upload just fine!

Good for the price but bad soldering

Ok it works very well NOW, because the usb xtal was loose and the CH340G was also with bad welds and the computer dont detect the board so, i suspected the cause was on the usb ic because the xtal comes loose.

Well for the price i can get all like this, but reparable xD.

Great product!

Does what it says. Shipping is not the fastest, but it is free! You will have to let windows search online for the USB driver for these boards, but thats easy and fast.

A very nice copy of UNO

This was the first Arduino I've ever purchased. After reading other reviews about CH340G UART USB interface IC, a driver was found and installed. It does have the pin 13 LED installed.

Cheap and works.

You have to use a different driver than that used for the original design. Once installed the units worked perfectly. Unbelievable price for a complete operational computer board.
