Entertaining and Over-The-Top Until The End!

When a meteorite from outer space hits a young California woman named Susan Murphy (voice of Reese Whitherspoon) and turns her into a giant monster, she is taken to a secret government compound where she meets a ragtag group of monsters also rounded up over the years. As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger, on a desperate order from The President, the outrageously motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the Aliens and save the world from imminent destruction!

Targeted by the government, Susan is captured and imprisoned at a secret facility where other such oddities are being held, including Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie), a mad scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a roach-human hybrid; B.O.B. (Seth Rogen), a gelatinous, brainless, but talkative mass brought to life in an experiment gone wrong; the Missing Link (Will Arnett), a Creature-from-the-Black-Lagoon-like lizard man; and the skyscraper-sized mutant larva Insectosaurus. Their jailer is General W.R. Monger (Kiefer Sutherland). When deranged alien overlord Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson) comes to Earth to obtain the precious quantonium and conquer the world, President Hathaway (Stephen Colbert) offers the monsters their freedom in exchange for defeating the evil mastermind. They run loose in San Francisco and Gallaxhar's giant robot quickly fixates on Susan. It corners her on the Golden Gate Bridge. Thanks largely to Susan's amazing strength and determination to keep anyone from being hurt, the monsters are able to destroy the robot. Susan takes her monster friends to visit her parents, but they frighten all the neighbors at the backyard barbecue. Derek doesn't attend. When Susan seeks him out, he breaks up with her; it's apparent that all he cares about is his career, and he doesn't think a 50-foot wife will help him move into larger markets. Susan quickly realizes that she's better off without Derek, and that she likes her new self, her new abilities, and her new friends. She rejoins the other monsters only to be snatched up into Gallaxhar's spaceship. Insectosaurus is felled when it tries to help her. Despite Susan's brief escape and determined resistance, Gallaxhar extracts the quantonium from Susan's body and she returns to her original dimensions. The quantonium is key to Gallaxhar's plan to take over the world: it enables him to create legions of clones, who march around in formation saying "Hail Gallaxhar!" Meanwhile, the surviving monsters sneak aboard to help. They set the ship to self-destruct. Only Susan makes it out of the engine room before the doors close; Dr. Cockroach, B.O.B. and the Missing Link stuck inside, insist that she escape without them. But Susan is tougher than that; she goes back to Gallaxhar and tries to make him abort the self-destruct and release her friends. When Gallaxhar tries to escape, Susan regains possession of the quantonium and becomes a giant again. After she frees her friends, they're all rescued from the self destructing ship by General Monger & Insectosaurus, who were not dead after all (just busy metamorphosing into a moth the size of a 747). Before Susan and the monster squad are called away to save another day, there's a big celebration during which Derek tries to interview Susan. She spurns him and allows B.O.B. to swallow him and spit him out, a career-killing moment that Susan makes sure will be caught on camera.

I'll give this film a 5/5 for a laugh every minute.

Real 3D viewing in your own home!

This is the first official title on Blu Ray 3D (non-anaglyph). This means that it's not the basic red-green cardboard glasses disc. It's meant to be viewed on the new gneration of 3D HDTVs with 3D Active Shutter glasses. So it's a first to be able to see this kind of high quality 3D in your own home. It was originally sold only as a promotional item and included with the purchase of Samsung 3D glasses made for their new 3D HDTVs.
The film itself is very clever as a Dreamworks animated title. It features an excellent voice cast including Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland, among others. The real star of the film are the eye-popping 3D visuals. It's a well made piece of cinema. Very funny and charming, and safe for the entire family to watch. A spoof of many of the sci-fi horror flicks of the 1950s and 60s. Altogether very enjoyable, especially in real 3D!

My wife loves this film

plus the kids love it as well. Good content nothing to provocative for our blood. A lot of adult humor that many of the little ones will skip right over. Images and detail are great.

3D anaglyph version

The movie is good, not specially fantastic!, but it would be better if the whole movie were available in 3D anaglyph. The Bob's big break included in 3D anaglyph version is so cool and funny, the effects are good, and the green+magenta lens are better than red+blue ones. Is a nice movie for the collection specially if you love the 3D anaglyph effects.Read full review...

Monsters vs. Aliens (Blu-ray Disc, 2009)

This is a great movie. I highly recomend it. It's nice to see a movie with a strong female lead. Movies with strong female leads tend to portray the leading female with male like traits but Reese Witherspoon and the animators did a great job of not doing this. Great, clean, funny, family entertainment at its best. The only problem I had was that the 3D Blu-Ray disk did not work in my PS3. I was able to play it in a Samsung Blu-Ray player and the 3D worked perfectly. The PS3 issues seems to be a know problem and Sony will hopefully release a new OS to solve the problem.Read full review...

DreamWorks hit digital animation movie

Susan Murphy (Voice of Reese Witherspoon) is about to be married and head to her dream destination of France for her honeymoon when a meter containing a radioactive substance crashes into her and turns her into a giant. She is immediately snatched by the US Government and taken to a secret location that is full of other "monsters". Just then an Alien detects the radioactive substance and sends a robot probe to retrieve it.

This is the beginning of the battle of Susan the Giant and the Monsters vs the Aliens.

Other actors who's voices were used as characters in this movie are: Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will, Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Kiefer Sutherland, and Stephen Colbert

What a wonderful movie this was, it was funny, it was entertaining, and it was also visually stunning.

This is a great movie for kids of all ages and I am sure that many adults will also enjoy watching it.

A great movie to sit with your kids and enjoy together.
