Good product, but not Oster quality

I've used this set daily for less than a year. The glass container, flexible lid, see-through nylon gasket and plastic screw-on cap are all still in good working condition. I can't say that for the rotary blade mechanism. It recently began to leak rusty-brown fluid from the bearings and made an awful noise and left a bit of a mess each time I used it. Thankfully, I had a used Oster blade to come to the rescue. I've had my Osterizer Classic Beehive since 2008. It's till running strong. Now that's quality you can count on. If clumsy ol' me could just stop knocking over or dropping those glass beakers...Read full review...

Square Jar is not as effective as a cylindrical jar

I assume Oster has good reason for the squared jar but in my experience it doesn't function nearly as well as the cylindrical jar. At least for blending purposes. I use it primilarly to blend cappuccino mix and I found it throws the mix at the walls (where it sticks) instead of drawing the liquid and mix to the blades with the whirlpool effect of the cylindrical jar. So i put this one away and will order the cylindrical jar elsewhere. Perhaps the squared jar is better for chopping? I don't know. Oster has never let me down with their blenders. If you are planning to purchase a blender, I would highly recommend Oster. The price is very reasonable, too. Good price, quite close to the original!

So glad to have found this when I dropped and broke my original glass jar. A couple of differences from the original--a plastic 'collar' to the blade instead of the original heavy aluminum one, and the lid maybe a tiny bit less sturdy. Blend The Calories away.

My brother and I are disabled veterans. We finally had enough fun in the kitchen over the years making cakes and pies.
Our health needs to be much improved. We are using the blenders to blend a new product that has all the vitamins and minerals for the day. This shake is a breakfast re-placement meal.

my old blender lives again

perfect replacement for the one that broke. I was dreading having to replace my old workhorse of an Oster blender, and was very happy to find a glass one for it.

Avoid. Crudely made and makes motor overheat. Burning plastic smell.

This is junk. The threads at the bottom of the glass are so poorly and crudely cast that the original Oster jar base won't screw on. Closer examination shows that the threads on this replacement jar are thicker, shorter, and off-center which forces the drive unit to work very hard to spin the blades. The plastic jar base supplied with the unit is not made correctly either. Though it will screw on, it seats the blades too far out of the unit, thus interfering with the motor drive shaft. The entire blade assembly is consequently off center. The smell of overheated plastic quickly filled the kitchen and the driving dog on the motor was too hot to touch.

It all starts with a poor copy of the threads on the glass jar and gets worse from there.
