Perfect tool for moisture detection after flooding

I was flooded by Hurricane Harvey. We tore out the bottom 4 feet of walls of our entire house. We sprayed the sill plates and bottom studs and outside backer board with Clorox solution and mold kill solution. There was very high humidity in the house initially. By using air conditioners and multiple dehumidifiers, we were finally able to bring the house humidity down less than 50%. I used the moisture meter to check the wallboard, cement, and wood walls, and backer board to determine the percent of moisture. This allowed us to see the moisture gradually coming out of the wood. Now we know we can begin replacing drywall in the interior walls, but the outer walls still need to dry further.

Several neighbors have borrowed my meter and loved it. I like this better than the prong type meters because I believe they only measure surface moisture, whereas this meter measures three-quarter inch deep and gives true wetness of the wood. The surface of the wood feels dry because fans and dehumidifiers are pulling moisture out, but the average moisture level is still high on the interior of the wood. The moisture meter does detect that.

"Sees" Where You Can't

We were suspicious we had moisture around windows but there was no visual evidence. The MM8's easy-to-view display confirmed our suspicions. I liked its ability to check different types of materials.
