Bird 43 element power multiplier
I calibrated this unit using the X2 and X4 options since I use 25W and a 250W elements with one of my Bird 43 meters. The accuracy of the extended ranges is good. The PEP function is not as accurate as the one on the "official" Bird PEP kit - as confirmed by oscilloscope readings of PEP. I mounted the two switches on the top of the back cover and drilled a hole in the upper right corner of the front for the LED instead of using the slug hole piece. Big fingers and frequent use was the factor here. I ran the battery wires through the gray slug piece and zip-tied the battery to it externally to make battery replacement faster. Great concept, works, good value, but needs much better instructions.
The instructions are poorly written and need a rewrite to clarify a number of things. The plastic insert for the switches, is a great feature, however, the switches supplied won’t fit side by side as the holes are not spaced wide enough. You can make it work, but you will need to file the holes to move the switches outward. That makes it tough to mount the switches, which needs to happen BEFORE mounting the circuit board or you won’t be able to get the switches in place. The multiply switch has no indication of which side is up. So after wrestling with mounting them you have a 50/50 chance to get it correct. I didn't...so the calibration process was reversed. The kit works and is a good deal, compared to buying additional slugs. For the price you should receive better instructions.Read full review...

Good Product, Poor Instructions
The kit arrived quickly. Appears to be well made from a visual inspection. Installation into my Bird 43 watt meter took a little time due to the very bare bones instructions. I did not have to modify any parts to make it fit. Calibration was easy to accomplish and the kit does what it is advertised to do at a very reasonable price. Works well- but switch placement was very tight
If you are looking for an easy to use PEP meter kit this is it. I bought it after looking at two YouTube videos by w2aew and breakerbroke23. It shipped very quickly and the board installed easily. The switches however were a little hard to align and secure in such a tight space. Instructions were very easy to follow. All adjustment screws were easy to access however, once installed, no adjustments were needed (presets were right on). The PEP function works as it should. The power LED makes it very easy to see the PEP function has been activated.
Only Con: maybe include some two sided foam tape to secure the battery. All other parts were included.

A little tricky to figure out the toggle switch functions because of the confusing written directions. The person who wrote the installation directions i'm sure is also the designer of the PEP kit. It's written more for those who have previous knowlege of its functions and design features. It should have been written with the intention that those installing it are seeing it for the very first time! (Example)When the directions say to install a switch in the "up" position but there is nothing on the switch that would indicate what position "up" is! LOL... Anyway, I installed the switches and wouldn't you know, it was up/side/down LOL....as it stayed. Great kit though and kinda fun to figure out and install. This is the second time I had purchased this kit and I would buy it again if needed.Read full review...

Peak reading Bird 43 with multiple ranges
I had seen this kit being used on Youtube. Having three ranges in one element is fantastic, in addition to peak reading ability. A meter element costs at least $130, even more from Bird Electronics. Already having a 500W element, I don't need any more thanks to this kit. mounting everything is a bit tight, but it fits. It lacks an external DC power connection, but the 9V battery lasts a long time and is easy to change.Read full review...

I bought the bird pep 2x 5x kit. It arrived well packed and as described. I was so excited I went straight to my radio room to install it in my Bird 43. The instructions were easy to follow and calibration was a breeze. It fit into my meter prefect and even looks good. So while I was installing it I saved time by letting my amps warm up. I hooked it up as soon as I was finished following all of the instructions. To my surprise, IT WORKED!!! I tested it on my driver then my secondary amp and the wattage was where I expected it to be. So I went to the 2x and 5x settings and they were spot on. I turned on my third amp in line and threw some serious wattage through my meter and the pep kit had no problems with it at all. GREAT BIRD 43 ADD-ON PRODUCT
This little kit is the real deal. It works Perfect and is Extremely Very Accurate on ALL Functions. I like it much better than the one that is sold from Florida because this one has all of the wires soldered to the PC board whereas the Florida unit does not have it's wires soldered. NOTE: You MUST Follow the instructions very carefully about the calibration procedure. Zero your meter needle in the position that you will be mostly using it, ( standing up or laying on it's back) first, then start the calibration procedure. You won't be disappointed. As long as your BIRD 43 is already very accurate then this PEP / MULTIPLIER Kit will also show extremely very accurate results. It helps if you know how to read and understand schematic diagrams. Also you will need an ohm meter to learn how the toggle switches are operating. Once you have the switch operation figured out then the switch orientation is plain as day on the schematic, so you will know which way to mount your switches. And it is at a Great Price. One thing you should know, if you want both of the toggle switches to work vertical up down, then you may have to very slightly widen each hole in the plastic plug that the switches mount into. Peak meter for pennies per dollar
This allows you to turn your Average reading bird meter into something more useable, something wveryone needs. But they cost way too much and aren't worth it. Especially after sinking 300-400 dollars on a bird meter now having to spend another 300 for a peak meter, horrible. Well this thing is easy to install and calibrate , of course some tech know how helps, it isn't necesary. Just follow the simple instructions and you are good to go. Install this pep board on my bird 43 and it works just like I wanted, it was fairly easy to install, although I had to remove and reinstall the switches to have them move in the positions that made sense to me, I would like to see a plug made for the open hole left on the other side due to not being able to store a slug in the unit anymore, but for the money and it being preassembled I consider it a good value.Read full review...

This kit is simple to install and easy to remove without damaging your fantastic Bird 43 wattmeter. It converts it to PEP and 2 times and 5 times scale at the flip of a switch so you don't have to have so many slugs. Stays accurate after installation. This is a second kit for my other 43.
