A good budget camera, but better pocket cameras are obviously available.

Really loved this camera. I originally bought it 5 years ago in 2007, and it had served me well on vacations, concerts, dorm room shenanegins until this summer when a Hawaiian wave crashed in and destroyed it. I was so happy with this camera, I ordered another one on eBay, hoping to get the same experience. However it came with defects that rendered it incredibly frustrating to use (unreliable flash and battery sensor). I eventually bought a Canon ELPH 300HS to replace this and now have 2 backup batteries :) SD1000 was a great camera for its time, but I think you really owe it to yourself to get a new camera. Night scenic photography is still a bit lacking, only standard video, and still a little slower between shots compared to modern point and shoot cameras. On the plus side, it has the since retired Aquarium mode, which is quite nice.Read full review...

The best compact digital camera!

This is the third Cannon PowerShot Elph SD1000 that I have bought over the last six years. I had to replace the first one because my son dropped & broke it. I am replacing the second one because apparently someone else liked it too, because it was stolen at work. This is the best small digital camera I have ever seen. It is simple to use if you are just wanting to snap some pictures. It also has some really cool functions if you want to be a little more adventurous. It is small and compact so it is also easy to carry around. That was my initial reason for buying it, but then discovered all the unique features it has. Strongly recommend it!Read full review...

Canon is a leader camera manufacturer and the Powershot SD1000 its a probe of this, the camera was builded with a metal body that result in a premium solid hand sensation, the 7.1 megapixel sensor althrought little bit its powerful, produces a rich image with excelent colors. Resistent troght the years, these one not give much troubles with a responsable use...a valuable device for sure.Read full review...

sometomes the best tech from the past is better than the present

sure. phones can now do amazing camera tricks. but an actual, physical camera has advantages. tripod mount. actual high intensity flashlamp. both of those built into the unit. delay timer. an abundance of exposure, shutter speed and image settings. SD1000 is one of the last cameras to also include an optical viewfinder. along with the, now standard, display panel. all this in a minute size package. small, light and easy to carry along. this camera wont get left in the house/car/suitcase for being too heavy or bulky. Actual physical buttons to control operation. Still my preferred way to take pictures.Read full review...

Canon SD1000

This is my second Canon SD1000. I broke the first one backpacking, and even though I bought a several hundred dollar replacement (Canon S120), I missed the SD1000. It is light in weight, small in size, easy to use controls and produces quality photos. At the time it was released (2006), the camera had a five-star rating, and I used the first one for years and years on the trail until a fall against a rock ended a good life. It has only one flaw. The camera should NOT have included a viewfinder, which is so small it's useless. No viewfinder would have allowed have a large, rear viewing screen, which it did improve later.
I ESPECIALLY like the metal, raised button controls with recessed notations! They do not burnish away the "printed" text, from bouncing around in a backpack, like the more expensive S120 does.
Fantastic little camera!

Great value -- lots of accessories

Camera was as described. Barely used and came with ALL the accessories: three batteries, two chargers (one wall and one 12V), carrying case, tripod, large case, straps, waterproof housing with strap, and instructions in English and Spanish. Quality of photos is great -- I'm learning how to use it to take underwater pictures.Read full review...

Great Little Camera

Portable, excellent quality, easy to use. Small size travels everywhere with me. This is my second one as I wore my first one out. Highly recommended! It is a nice change from my iPhone camera.

Canon's SD 1000 makes an excellent accessory for the tourist

I love this camera because it has a viewfinder which can be used when it is too sunny to see the screen. I had owned one before and used it extensively until I dropped it. I repurchased the camera after a trip to France when I grew frustrated at blurred pictures taken by viewing the LCD screen. There are other features such as zoom, compact size, face recognition software, adjustable light sensitivity that make this camera work well for the day-to-day tourist.Read full review...

Canon Power Shot SD1000

This is a wonderful little camera! This is my second one and I also bought one for a gift. It takes beautiful pictures inside and out. It has many great features, it’s compact, lightweight, and easy to use. I took it to the beach with me, two years in a row and couldn’t ask for better pictures!Read full review...

Great little camera!

Fist of all, when you can get a slightly rough, but fully functional Canon Powershot camera for less than $12 on ebay, yep... that's Excellent "Value for money", I'd say. That's actually the whole focus of this review. To the best of my knowledge the Powershot SD1000 is no longer in production, however it's fairly easily found in various states of working and non-working condition on ebay and other online sales sites.
Secondly, the SD1000 packs an impressive amount of features
in it's compact design, especially its CCD sensor which gives it's 7.1 mega pixels the ability to captures image sharpness that can put a lot of newer 10, 12, and 14 MP cameras to shame. IF you can find a good one online somewhere, I do recommend downloading the owners manual pdf, because this little jewel is loaded with features that the manual explains rather clearly. Bottom line.. Super little camera. If you can find one at the right price, JUMP ON IT!!
